Hi everyone,
New to travelblog, but already got so much good advice! Thanks.
I'm travelling extensively around SA for up to 10 months starting October. My bank account allows me free withdrawls at ATM's but is it a good idea to have US Dollars with me too (in case of emergencies)? or should I just use local currency? I obviously don't want to be carrying a lot of cash on me!!
I want to stay away from credit cards cos I just dont like them!!
Any advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Sean
Reply to this It's a good idea to have 2 or 3 debit cards with you, and to keep them separated in case one is lost or stolen. It can be difficult and time consuming waiting for replacement cards to be sent out so it's better to have spares.
Dollars are the most useful currency out here, so it might be a good idea to keep a spare 100 or so for emergencies, especially if you are traveling alone.
Reply to this yea keep some us dollars handy some places dont accept it but major cities do try not to get local currency in huge bills eg 100$ nuevo soles as most places dont have the change to accept it so keep small bills i just got back from having 4 weeks there and that was my only prob having large bills and trying to exchange
