download photos in internet cafes from digicam, and other photo's related question?

Hello SA experts :-)

I've never downloaded any photos from an internet cafe. I think it must be possible, as other people are doing it. so do I need to take my cable from my digicam (like the one I use at home) to do that when I'm away?

I'm thinking of taking another extra memorycard with me, to make sure, I've enough space for my photos. Is it possible in larger cities in South America, to download it on to a CD or something? Like in a photo shop?

Or how have you done that.

thanks for your help.

I think you'll be surprised at how many internet cafes there are in SA, almost every town has several, even the smallest villages. Most will burn DVDs or CDs for you too for a reasonable price.

What I've done is carry 3 or 4 memory cards with me. When they are used up I burn two DVDs in an internet cafe, keep one with me and send one home for safe keeping. If you're on a long trip bring more memory as it can be expensive enough to send stuff to Europe (esp. from Peru). Reply to this

Hi Sandra,

Welcome to TravelBlog.

I always take a cable with me - let's you burn the discs yourself. Internet cafes don't always have memory card slots. Reply to this

Most internet cafes in SA have only one machine for burning CDs and DVDs - usually manned by whoever runs the place and not available to customers as they prefer to burn the disc for you.

However, you'll def need the cable for uploading smaller amounts of photos for blogs, email, etc Reply to this

Like others mentioned, there are tons of internet cafes in virtually every town/city/village. You definitely should bring your cable for your camera so that you can upload your photos to computers yourself. You can hire people to burn the cds/dvds for you or often you can do it yourself. But do keep in mind dvd burners are far and few compared to cd burners. And sometimes the computers are not that fast so it is often easier to just hire the person at the desk to do it for you. I always made two copies....kept one on me and mailed the second one home. I carried 3 x 2 GB cards and kept them on a rotation...burning them at the earliest chance I would have so that I did not risk losing them. I would also recommend taking your memory card out of your camera during bus journeys (and keeping it in a separate place) for that 'just in case'. I know of too many people that had their cameras stolen with all of their photos inside. Reply to this
