Should the mayor of Mount Isa appologise?
15 years ago, August 19th 2008 No: 1 Msg: #46003

AN appeal for "ugly ducklings" to move to Mount Isa to help address a woman shortage has sparked calls for the mayor to publicly apologise.

I dont know if an appology will make any difference but I certainly think he should shut up.

Are they so short of intelligent people in Mount Isa that a person like this moron is the best mayor they can find? Reply to this

From my experience Aussies are generally more outspoken than North Americans and, while a comment like that wouldn't fly here at all, I don't find it to be a totally horrible thing to say.
I just think that the PC world goes a little too extreme sometimes. There are far worse things that one can do or say than "you're a little unfortunate looking? well come to our town."

I imagine a lot of those upset people would also be ones who grab a People magazine or some other such trash and comment on Jennifer Aniston's weight gain and so and so looking disgusting without make-up.
Trashing a mayor for being a little overly creative with his recruitment is definitely the PC thing to do, but there are a lot of other areas of media that are a million times worse.

Just my two cents.

Here is a picture of the mayor of Isa. :D

Mount Isa Mayor refuses to apologise over ugly girls call

He is no Adonis and that is for sure. :D

This makes me wonder what the other men in the now becomming more known backwater of Isa are like. There is probably a reason why there are so few women there. :D

If a person in a position such as Mayor is so undiplomatic with his comments in this case I would doubt his ability to be diplomatic in any area of his job that requires it.

Hahah. He sure is a catch.

I'm just wondering if people would make such a stink if he was asking for attractive people to come to his town.
I doubt they would.

I personally find the whole thing kinda funny. He's just trying to help people out after all. And with that physique of his, I am sure the ladies are running for his town.

I think that would also put him on my moron list. ''Come to Isa and you will have the pick of our finest drunken, brawling sheep farmers..... Beautiful women only!.''. :D

But better a moron who tries to help people than the other type...... :D

I wonder how many people will visit this town now. I had no idea Mount Isa existed prior to today and now, if I am ever in the area, I might pop in to check out all the ugly people running around town.
Bad press is good press as the saying goes.

haha .. for sure!
I'll be in Oz in Sept 2009.
And obviously Mount Isa will be my first stop.

We should make a competition of some sort.

LOL, that mayor has only caused women to stay away from there - what girl is going to go to a town where they are asking for ugly girls? Indeed, no diplomat...

Quote is what my boyfriend says about the Mayor. :D

Have you located it on the Australian map, yet?

Hahah .. yeah exactly. There is no girl I know who would want to even go near the border of the town asking for the ugly girls.
Those poor men in town are going to be even worse off when all the women currently there leave town.

I haven't located it on a map yet. Although I have been checking out the town's website. MountIsa .
Apparently they have a big rodeo. Yeehaaaaaaw.

(clearly I am slacking at work today.)

Mt Isa is located in Northern Queensland not far from the Northern Territorian border. It's principle industry is lead and copper mining. Like many outback mining communities it has an excess of men. Reply to this

Are you from Mount Isa Simon? You dont look nearly as bad as I expected a man from there to look. Afterall, there must be some reason why the mayor is desperately trying to attract potential wives to go there. :D Reply to this

Hehe, no, I'm not from Mount Isa. I moved here about seven weeks ago for work. The Mayor is just an idiot. He hasn't even been in office for a single year and he's been super controversial. I haven't actually met anyone yet who has admitted to voting for him. A bit like when John Howard was our Prime Minister.

On top of the sexist comments, the Mayor is also publicly racist. He opposed a public housing development recently because he said it would bring Aboriginal people too close to town and lower property values. Reply to this
