I'm planning an excursion to Peru and Bolivia (as a side-trip from Santiago, part of an RTW intinerary). My original plan was fly to La Paz, do the standard Southern Peru tourist circuit (Cusco, Machu Picchu etc), ending up in Lima. But it seems easier to confirm a flight to Santa Cruz, which looks like it's worth a visit...
So... is this doable, or am I being foolish? I'll probably have about 17-18 days to do the whole lot (Santa Cruz to Lima). I'm fairly novice at non-westernized travel, and know about uno word of Spanish.
How is the bus service from Santa Cruz to La Paz? -- comments on the web about Bolivian buses seem rather mixed. I guess two days, with a break in Cochabamba, would be easiest?
Oh, this is will be in Feb '09 (rainy season in these parts?)
Muchas Gracias!
Catherine.
Reply to this With only 17-18 days I would stick to your original plan. Cusco; MP and the Sacred Valley deserve a lot of time, as does La Paz & Lake Titicaca. We spent 19 days in and around Cusco and it was nowhere near enough time to see everything.
