Me and a buddy are planning on driving from Cairns to Darwin to Adelaide. We are 18 & 19 with drivers lisences and do not have experience driving manual but I think I can figure it out before getting the campervan or what ever we get through other means. If anyone has an opinion on what kinda car/campervan we should get and whether you think we would be able to visit the interesting sites in mid July with this vehicle it would be greatly appreciates Reply to this

Hi Guys,

You may have trouble hiring a car as many companies require you to be at least 21. You might like to consider buying a secondhand car through dealers who offer buyback deals (you'll need to surf the net as I'm not aware of any in particular).

Another way to do the Northern Territory from Darwin down to Adelaide is to book a tour with the Wayward Bus. This is a great touring company and inexpensive. Groups are small and a lot of young people use them (although they cater to all ages). I've had good reports about them and they take you off the beaten track. Lots of fun!!

June-August are a good time to visit northern Australia and the Centre as you'll miss the wet season which can be hot and humid.

Cheers,

as martina said, you would need to be 21 to hire a car. also, they won't let you drive manual unless you have a manual license.

I have done a driving holiday in the outback and honestly, you would need to be very confident and skilled drivers as you won't be driving on just any ordinary road.

However, driving in the outback is an amazing holiday to be had and im sure you'll guys will love it too Reply to this
