I have just arrived in bucaramanga and i want to get to know the culture. Can someone help me?
I have just arrived in bucaramanga colombia and am wanting to get to know the area. I am staying with family who tells me that it is too dangerous to walk around alone yet they work all day so they dont have time to show me around. I feel like they may be exaggerating. Is this true about bucaramanga being a single woman? If not, what areas should i check out. Maybe there is someone out there traveling or local who can wander around with me? any advice would be greatly appreciated. thanks! ciao!
Reply to this Hi there, I have been to Bucaramanga a couple of times and am moving there in August to live with my boyfriend. I always find it a really clean and safe city. I was last there at Easter, and I walked around on my own and had no problems. There are loads of really nice shops and restaurants in the Cabecera area. Taxis are really cheap and safe - it normally only costs 3250 COP to get anywhere. There are loads of really nice parks - my favourite is Parques los Palmas. You could get a taxi or bus to the colonial city on the outskirts, Giron and/or Piedecuesta, or up to Mesa de los Santos which is lovely. The people are really friendly in Bucaramanga - I would hang around one of the universities like UNAB and I'm sure you will meet somebody who wants to practice their English. Anyway, I hope that helps. Get out there and see some of the city. I can't wait to move there!!
