Hello Everyone,
So we got up early for our free breakfast, again it was bread and dolce leche (awesome sweet milk spread). We were leaving to head back to Colonia today but our bus was at 1430 so we still had all morning to explore!!
We went for a walk in the early morning down to the Rambla-waterfront where the joggers are, we attempted a 5 minute jog but it is evident we clearly need to get back in the gym.
It is a lot warmer in Montevideo, so Vick can now stop wearing the ski coat! One area to visit is ‘Mercado del Puerto, a fantastic restaurant area, here they had lots of Asado’s, so the best time to see this really is at night. Our early morning walk took us into the Plaza Independencia, the main government square that is quite impressive. Some travellers said Uruguay was not worth going to see but I’m glad we did because it’s been so good (safe, clean, friendly) and shows that you have to see for yourself to know!!!
After a really nice walk around we headed back to the
hostel to cook lunch before heading off to the bus station. It was a long walk so we got the bus to the general area, the plan was for Vick to stay in the bus station with the bags while I went to the football stadium (first world cup was won here by Uruguay!!), however we were running late and it was a bit far to go and come back to get the bus!!
The bus seemed a lot quicker on the way back, and had less people on it. If your going to do this trip book up the tickets early or you will end up standing up the whole way!!!
We got back fine and it was a 2 min walk to the hostel el Espanol (same hostel we stayed in 2 nights ago). The woman who greeted us was not the same lady as before but a rude old lady who barked at us until the other lady turned up smiling and checked us in. We got the same room so it was easy.
We went for another walk around Colonia; it’s a really old quaint beautiful town.
We decided as we were trying to get rid of our Uruguayan currency we would buy steak and potatoes for dinner and brought some pasta and sauces to take with us to Iguazu as it’s expensive up there. And more wine for tonight and for Iguazu As they allow you to take food across the boarder; it was the best way to use up all our currency!!
We got back and I cooked us a nice potato and squash roast, with corn and a steak!! It was really good!! And the wine was great as well!! We watched our normal TV show until late, because we knew we could have a nice lie in as our ferry was not until 1000 so could enjoy our sleep before our 17 hour bus ride tomorrow!!! L
