Oct 18 We had meet a chap some months back in Chile and after chatting he was interested in us creating a new website for his hostel which was in the process of an overhaul. After reacquainting ourselves with Arequipa we decided to head north and check out his place. It is situated an hour south of Lima and we were greeted with the usual grey Lima climate, no matter it was nice to settle in and know we would be there for a wee while. At the time the hostel was a mine of cement laying, jack hammers, painters and the usual rowdy construction folks. Peru day went off with a bang……pity it was the night before we thought it was to be although the fireworks exploding in the twilight sky should have been a giveaway any way while Arequipa was an explosion of red and white flags we missed the celebrations but considering the amount of festivals we have actually wandered into accidentally we will probably live to see another day. We are now in Lima, staying with a friend in a nearby seaside town called San Bartolo, he is doing up his newly purchased hostel and we are helping him out to get things up and running. Myself and Pete arrived in San Bartola a week before Emma and Eva were due to arrive. We had a look around all the accomodation on offer and checked into a nice hotel right on the beach. San Bartola is 45 minutes south of Lima. At weekends it gets busy, as lots of people from Lima have holiday homes here and come to spend Saturday and Sunday on the beach. The plan was to organise some accomodation for the girls arrival, and then head further south for a few days. However, when we got to the bus stop on the Pam American Highway, none of the buses would take us because of our boards.
