I have arrived in Lima, to start a trip which would not have happened, but for last year’s event. A journey I am undertaking with my mother. It should have been my father who accompanied my mother, it was their trip. But it was not to be. And so my mother and I start on this journey, on the trip she and my dad had planned. It is in a very real sense a new beginning. For the first time I won’t... Read Full Entry

A new beginning
Best wishes on this new direction in your life...embracing family in your travels in contrast to a determination to be alone on the road. I hope you always find life interesting and rewarding.

It will all be good
And life will always be interesting and rewarding, I don´t doubt that.

Journeying on...
I was so sorry to read about your dad's death in the very beautifully written previous blog. Then I read this blog and thought how wonderful it is for you and your mum to spend time together on this trip, but it must also be bitter-sweet. Looking forward to following your journey.

Thanks
Mixed feelings indeed, but it is nice and it feels right. This is how my dad would have wanted it to go.

Traveling with your mother
My mother and I were great travel partners. It was always good to see things through her eyes and perspective. Embrace this new beginning. I'm glad you could take the trip your father was to take and being with family during this time is special. Looking forward to your views and perspective.

It is different
And I need to get used to travelling with somebody, but it is very nice to be able to do this and luckily we all like to travel in the same way in my family.

Lima

So sweet!
How sweet of you to accompany your mother on her (and your dad's) annual holidays, and how great that this first voyage was to unite a part of your family here in Peru! I love your brother's work, not to mention the delicious ocas and purple potatoes down here. I was hoping you were coming down to Arequipa where I am, but Uruguay is also one of my fave countries, so you're sure to have a great adventure. !Buen viaje!

Gracias!
Arequipa is on my list of places to see, but my mum had been down there already with my dad. So now it is Paraguay and Uruguay.

Just wanted to say I have enjoyed reading your blogs for a couple years now and it's good to see you writing and traveling again! I look forward to reading them! Be safe buen viaje! -Greg

sweet of you
sweet of you to do that. i think it would be awkward to travel if its just me and my mom
12th February 2014

Thanks
Luckily it is not awkward for me, we have similar styles of travelling and like to do the same things

Trevlig resa

Kram, Berit

A different journey
As you said earlier, this is a journey with mixed feelings, but it feels right. I think it is wonderful you can take your mum travelling, and your ability to determine bus routes is probably a trait inherited from your father - he is still there with you.

Thanks Shane
Yep, the bus route determining ability is definitely a trait I inherited from my dad.
