Hi Everyone,
So after the mess that was yesterday, we woke in our freezing cold room, well according to Vick I was toasty. We got our free breakfast, of tea or coffee and 2 biscuits not the breakfast we were looking for bud it was something. Also the owner offered to drive us to the bus terminal so we were happy.
We packed up and soon were at the bus terminal, so far in South America we have found that the buses all run very late, both turning up and getting to your destination. Today was no different, the bus was about 30 mins late and it ended up 4 hours late!! YES 4 HOURS!!
The seats on the buses are really good called semi-cama, which is half bed, the drive was amazing, the views are stunning and worth travelling this way just for the views.
It took a while until we arrived at the border crossing. It was mayhem. As the pass had been closed for well over a week there was a massive backlog of buses trucks and cars wanting to get over, also it is Chiles
winter break so everyone wanted to go skiing in Argentina…all in all it was a nightmare. We must have queued up for a good 2-3 hours until we finally crossed, going through customs and getting our stamps.
The next part of the drive was a winding road taking us back down to a normal altitude; this was really nice as the views again were amazing. After what seemed forever we finally arrived in Santiago.
Our first task was to get to our hostel, Santiago is huge but luckily we had instructions to get there, not good one but instructions. So we got the metro to Republica from the University of Santiago stop, It’s around 800 pesos a journey on the underground and they wont accept ISIC student cards only Chilean ones. We got off and tried following the instruction however they were vague, so after 40 mins of walking the wrong way we final found the correct route and got to the hostel.
We were staying at the Casa de rojas, it was a really nice hostel, we had booked up 1 night in the 8 bed dorm for 9000 peso,
we got checked in and shown to our room, it was nice to final have some Wi-Fi and to get a beer. We sorted out our beds and stuff then headed out for dinner.
So Santiago seems to love sushi, as there are sushi restaurants everywhere!! We ended up in a Chilean restaurant I had chorrillano, which was chips with meat onions and eggs, a very Chilean dish which was really good, Vick had Chicken and mash with onions, she loved it as well. It is really cheap for food so it came to £3 pound a dish so 3000 peso.
We headed back to the hostel and managed to chat to our friend Cristian who lived in the outskirts of Santiago, we arranged to meet him the next day to have a tour of the city and get dinner together.
We had a beer each, on the house, always love a free beer, and then headed to the room as we were shattered after such a long day travelling. We watched a supernatural then we were both asleep very quickly.
Love N&V X
