After 4 lift offs and 4 landings my bike and me are in the region of aysen chili. A quick transfer from Balmaceda to Coihaigue with the bike well secured on the roof and I can make my first km. The weather is still cloudy but dry. According to the locals of Puerto Montt december was only rain. Maybe thats good fortune, what already did come down is rain gone bye. I met Cesar in the airplane and it was very nice also to try to talk some Spanish. According to the weather forecast Summer starts at the 1th of January. That was also the end of the financial crisis according to some Dutch planning. I am curious. ... read more

This time I am going to take you with our entry into Chile in Futaleufu all the way south to border-town, Chile Chico, where we crossed back into Argentina. As the title already reveals, major parts of the way we drove on gravel road. It was very bumpy and rough, so I had to wait until we have reached a stable environment, now seating at a table I can write about this journey. We have spent the night just slightly out of Futaleufu, but the weather was not with us that evening, and it rained the whole night and most of the next morning. In the morning, we waited for a short break in the rain, to pack our tent, sleeping bags etc. and continued our way south, entering soon after "highway" 7 - 'Carretera Austral'. ... read more

This is a blog in Spanish and English (the English version is at the bottom).

This is a blog in Spanish and English (the English version is at the bottom).

This is a blog in Spanish and English (the English version is at the bottom). No fue ... read more

I hope everone had a great Thanksgiving! I´m finally down in Patagonia and having a blast. From Puerto Montt, I headed south to Hornopiren, intending to check out some thermal baths in tidal pools on an island just off shore then catch a ferry to Chaiten. But the ferry to the island was only running twice a week and once there you had to stay at the expensive hotel. Also, the ferry to Chaiten only runs in peak tourist season (Jan - Feb). The only good thing about the day was talking with Yohanna while I waited for the four hour bus ride back to P Montt. When not in a frantic hurry, conversations in spanish can be a pretty fun excercise in charades given my limited vocabulary. Then I had to stay at the hostal ... read more

We are now in San Carlos de Bariloche, Argentina. We have had a very eventful past few days and our first taste of inclement weather, even some rain!! The roads have just been incredible, with windy metal roads following the shoreline of the many lakes, with snow capped mountains in every direction. Zane had a momentary laps of concentration and narrowly missing a deep concrete culvert, the Transalp now with a modified front section and no screen, Zane with a bit of damaged pride and some zip ties continued on his adventure. We now have David V's 1200 GS on the back of the truck, as it now only has one functioning cylinder. The other one has been damaged beyond our supply of 'Mend it' after his altercation with a ute, incidentally, the same one we ... read more

Here we are in Coihaique, all safe and sound JUST !. We have had a very interesting and challenging past few days, battling the Patagonia winds on the infamous Ruta 40 and the challenging road and winds along the Lago General Carrera, with more than one rider blown off his moto. Below are more detailed accounts of what has transpired... Blog from Mike V.... Hola otra vez, Left Rio Serrano on a stunningly clear but cool morning heading South back past Lago del Toro. Breathtaking vista of lakes & sheer snow capped mountains as we bumped across fantastic motorcycling gravel roads albeit at a slow pace as today the plan was to ride in a group and look for Condors (if we disturbed them we would all be there to see them fly), the plan went ... read more

This week marks our class' trip to the south of Chile, where we toured Puerto Montt and San Rafael Lake. It was a heck of a time. This is our 2nd and final trip where all 20 of us will be together. Tue, Oct 27 2 more days until our trip to the south! In class we talked about our weekends, as well as what we should to to prepare for our upcoming trip. We were going to take a bus to Puerto Montt, stay there for a day, and then the next day get on our cruise. That made a lot of sense, because after a long bus ride to Puerto Montt, we are going to need to take a rest. There was an option to go in a really comfortable bus for about $4 ... read more

We took the overnight bus form Concepcion to Puerto Montt. We left Concepcion at 11pm. We were on the second level of a double decker bus. We were so excited so I didn´t go to sleep until about 1 or 2 a.m. Christina ended up getting sick on the way. I woke up to a beautiful sunrise. You could see Volcano Osorno. I went to the bathroom but I struggled to get the door open. It was really hard! Granted I wasn´t very awake but I got some weird looks. They served us coffee and cookies on the bus. I don´t usually drink coffee but I liked the stuff they gave us. We arrived at the bus station and realized that we had no idea where our hostel was. Triana called and eventually we figured it ... read more
