¡Hola! After deciding that we'd learnt enough Spanish to get by, we jumped on a bus to Puerto Iguazu, which is the gateway to the Iguazu Falls. The overnight bus took 16 hours. The journey was a breeze as we travelled "coche cama". I can only liken it to travelling business class. The seats are huge and recline all the way back; you get served food and drinks and you can even watch DVDs. The Iguazu Falls are one of the most impressive, jaw-dropping sights that I've witnessed. Their sheer noise, power, volume and beauty was all very humbling. I won't attempt to describe them anymore. The Falls separate Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay and can be seen from each of those sides. We spent one day viewing them from the Argentinian side and the next from ... read more

Finally got round to updating the blog, sorry for the delay. You should now get two or three entries winging their way to you soon and some will have photos too!! I am also storing snaps on a seperate website which I will be sending invites out for soon so that all my stunning photography can be viewed in all it's glory. Happy reading! 14th March 06 - 23rd March 06 I left Buenos Aires with the intention of chillin´out for a few days in the small town of Colonia, across the Rio del Plata in Uraguay. The idea was to take it easy for a few days and suss out a plan for traveling through south America with impeccable timing to meet up with Sarah in Ecuador in May. Both objectives were achieved in short ... read more

And on the smaller side...
but, just as impressive!

We made out way up to Iguazu via our overnight bus trip and a few days stop of in Posades, a northern town. In Posades we made a failed day trip to Paraguay - turned out I needed a visa, so we turned around and came back, but we also made a successful trip to the Missiones region so called because of the Missionaries that converted the locals abolut 400 years back. When they arrived they organised the locals into a new society, building them a stone town built around a huge church, and teaching them about God, of course but also some more useful skills like farming and agriculture. The Falls themselves, another 5 ish hours up the road were spectacular - but pictures speak loader than words - so enjoy...... read more

After arriving in Puerto Iguaza, a small town on the border of Argentina and Brazil that largely caters for tourists travelling to see the Iguazu Falls, I headed straight out to spend the afternoon at the Argentinian side of the Falls. All I can say is that these waterfalls are breathtaking! Probably the most amazing thing i've ever seen in my life! From the Argentinian side the falls seem to stretch for kilometres, and the power of the water falling through the Devil's Throat and down the 100's of other smaller waterfalls has to been seen to be believed. A whole series of walkways have been built across the river and to the edges of waterfalls allows you to get right up into all the action and into the refreshing spray and mist that the falls ... read more

The bus ride was fairly standard and boring. It started at 8pm and ended at 2:30pm the following day. I thought I had the two seats to myself, but a guy got on at the next stop and had the seat next to mine. Fortunately he didn´t talk to me until the next morning, and then only briefly. I couldn´t understand anything he said - I know it was Spanish, but could make out about 3 words. Akward. They served us dinner which was remarkably like airline food - meat and cheese appetizer, crackers, bread, a little hot dish and flan for dessert with orange soda. Then they showed a Steven Seagal movie - why?- and turned the lights out so I couldn´t read. Slept on and off all night and woke up when breakfast - ... read more

I have to confess to not really giving it much thought....It was the end of our trip and I never really considered the proximity of Iguazu to the equator. I don't suppose I needed to though. As soon as the pilot announced local time was 6PM and the temperature was a cool 98 degrees farenheit, it all became very clear!! I was drenched in sweat just watching the guy load our luggage into the van! We hoped to do the moonlight tour on the night of our arrival. Sadly, there just wasn't enough time. By the time we made it to our hotel, it was about 8PM so we decided to do it the following night. We decided to do the Argentinean side of the falls ourselves via a taxi from the hotel and we'd use ... read more

Ola from Buenos Aires! Before we head down to Patagonia on Wednesday we wanted to give you an update on The Iguassu Falls and Buenos Aires itself.... The Falls were absolutely amazing. We would have to say that it is by far the best thing we have seen so far, perhaps ever.....it left us speechless. See for yourself on the pics although they barely do it justice. As for Buenos Aires, we arrived on Saturday and Anna treated us both to a night at one of the most luxurious hotels BA has to offer (see www.faenahotelanduniverse.com). Complete pampering by the infinity pool in the afternoon followed by dinner and tango show in the evening. The big comfy bed and power shower were more than a welcome relief to our tired bodies. We have since downgraded 4 ... read more

It´s like the most brilliant poet of our time once said: ¨Don't go chasing waterfalls Please stick to the rivers and the lakes that you're used to I know that ypu're gonna have it your way or nothing at all But I think you're moving too fast ¨ The falls of Iguazu (Argentinian side) were the basis for this beautiful work of art. While I didn´t have the same muses that stood behind T-Boz, Left Eye (RIP), and Chilli... I still was amazed by the sheer beauty of the waterfalls. They are big. It´s like if you put yourself into a barrel and went down the river, you would probably not survive... THATS HOW BIG. I got into Puerto Iguazu after a 16 hour bus ride. The key to an effective day after a long bus ... read more

Dear friends and family, Thanks for all your messages guys. I´m having a great time in Brazil. I visited lots of beaches near Floranoplis and the island of Santa Catarina. One crazy night out with a Finn, American and an Auzzie. Long overnight bus to the Foz de Igacu two days ago. Since then I´ve been to the Brazilian and the Argentinean side of the falls. Met up with lots of new friends and we´re having a great time traveling together. We have a pool at this hostel so can cool down after the hot days. Tomorrow I will be visiting Paraguay just to have a look around, then off to Salta in Argentina, heading towards Chile. I´ve got a lot of ground to cover still. I am having a nice relaxed day at the Brazil ... read more
