Last we wrote we were in Salta eating steak for Easter. We have since travelled further south in Argentina and tomorrow will make our way to Chile, (Vina del Mar) to spend some time on the beach! After a beautiful busride from Salta we ended up in Cafayate, a cute little town surrounded by wineries. Our plan was to do some wine tours and relax for a bit, and that we did. The town itself is kinda like Perth, quiet and relaxed, with a few less retired people. Here we engaged in tasting as much wine as possible during the wine tours around town. We also walked 1.5 km to get to a cheese factory only to find out we could taste 2 pieces of cheese each before walking 1.5 km back to town. The thing ... read more

First and foremost, chag Semaech and Happy birthday Michelle! I hope you had a fantastic birthday and everyone had a great Pesach... ;) how is everyone?? I am currently staying in a cute little hostel called Wincas in Mendoza. On our first night we had a massive asado (which is a famous Argentinian bbq) and we went out to a club called Opium till late, which played a lot of INXS and 80's trash. After the club I was so wasted and couldn't go to sleep, I noticed someone watching the third Star Wars downstairs so I went to check it out, I didn't speak to the person sitting on the couch at first, because I was pretty damn wasted and was in no mood. He started asking me questions, the usual stuff, like where I ... read more

Well, we left our lovely little hostel in Bariloche on Thursday, making some new friends there and heading north up to Mendoza. A few things to note were our failed attempts to scuba dive and go white water rafting. We were cursed with bad weather and due to coldness and lack of photo ops it didn´t seem like it was worth the money to go rafting. In the end the weather did improve later in the day, so maybe it would have been a good idea, but I guess at least we saved money. Jord and I bought our tickets to Santiago, flight to Africa is still in progress. I cut Ryans hair, which was pretty cool, I don´t think I was as nervous as he is, but after his buzz cut back in December his ... read more

Here I am in Mendoza! We rolled in this morning on a bus after a 12 hour ride. Well, we found a hostel here, but since it's Semana Santa things are all booked and it's hard to find something good. We're in a place called Campo Base and we ended up having to buy a package in order to stay here, but it works out, since other kids from the program are staying here also. I'm so excited about this experience. It cost us $100 for four nights, a wine tour, a bus tour of the Andes Mountains, repelling, a guided hike, time in a hot spring, AND mid night rafting with the full moon on Saturday night! I am so glad that we're doing this. If I had been travelling by myself I wouldn't have ... read more

We entered Argentina on foot, walking across the border from Villazon to La Quiaca. Villazon was full of shops lining the streets up to the border, a place popular with Argentineans because of its competitive prices. After clearing immigration we walked up to the bus terminal, to see if there were any buses that night to Jujuy, from where we could get a bus to Buenos Aires, there being little reason to stay in La Quiaca. We soon found out we could get a bus to Jujuy, which would arrive there at 4.00 a.m., and then a connecting bus to Buenos Aires, leaving Jujuy at 6.00 a.m., arriving in Buenos Aires at 5.00 a.m. the next day. It was a bit of a mission, we had already been travelling all day since we left Uyuni, Bolivia ... read more

An extremely comfortable bus journey landed us in Mendoza a few days ago. The Argentinian buses are fantastic..we´d paid 6quid extra to go "Coche Cama" instead of the normal semi-cama (the primera clase not being available on the route) and got a superb leather reclining seat with tonnes of room on the bottom floor of the bus..nice and quiet and a superb place to spend 20 hours. We had hot food (3 courses) and free soft drinks, and managed to get something of a good night´s sleep...a good thing as you´ll see below. Walked through the lovely tree-lined boulevards of the city to our hostel at 8am, along with Laura, an Italian girl we´d met in the hostel in Bariloche. The hostel, the Damajuana, appeared lovely, and very much as had been described to us by ... read more

Spent the last few days in Mendoza, a town somewhere in Central Argentina. This small town is famous for its wineries (bodegas) and it produces 70% of the wine in Argentina. It also provides pretty much options for outdoor activities like water-rafting, trekking, mountain biking, skiing (but in winter only) etc. Like the relaxing feel of this town. Shops are closed in the afternoon from 1 to 5pm for siesta and everything seems to come to a standstill in the afternoon. By evening, the shops are reopen, and people can hang out till pretty late at night. Yes, it´s safe to go out at night here, so no worries. I must give credit mention to Hostel Alamo, where we stayed for the last few days. The hostel was refurbished from a house, so it seems as ... read more
