Winery
Apparently this is the room the winery owner uses to "entertain" the huge cask/barrels were a nice touch, tango anyone? Well, we left our lovely little hostel in Bariloche on Thursday, making some new friends there and heading north up to Mendoza. A few things to note were our failed attempts to scuba dive and go white water rafting. We were cursed with bad weather and due to coldness and lack of photo ops it didn´t seem like it was worth the money to go rafting. In the end the weather did improve later in the day, so maybe it would have been a good idea, but I guess at least we saved money. Jord and I bought our tickets to Santiago, flight to Africa is still in progress.
I cut Ryans hair, which was pretty cool, I don´t think I was as nervous as he is, but after his buzz cut back in December his hair has been... well, problematic. First it grew out in seemingly odd consistencies, appearing to resemble that of a newborn childs, until eventually that sorted itself out, and it just needed a good trim. I took my incredibly unsteady hands and chopped some at the back and sides, before finishing with a cleanup of the sideburns and then with Jords razor we finished the
Winner!
Defying all odds and truly mastering the Spanish bingo system, Jord finally wins at something! job. I don´t really know how good of a job I did but Ry seems happy and I think it definitely looks better.
Our last night in Bariloche was hilarious, I came upstairs to bed, not too sure maybe 4am. Our room had two bunk beds, four beds in total, Ryan was sound asleep above my bed, but above Jord was a different story... this guy in our room must have gotten so wasted he had no idea what was going on and just tried to sleep with Jord. Nobody is really sure but he sat on the end of Jords bed at one point (when Ol´Jas came in) and I just saw this shadowed figure sitting there wheezing in his tighty whities. After countless photos, and declaring him not to need an exorcision we finally got him up into his bed, all the while him not remembering anything the next morning... not that it would have mattered he only spoke Spanish and he was a total dick with his alarm clock everyday.
I bought heaps of Rapa Nui chocolate for my bus ride to Mendoza, we went all out and bought tickets for the cama bus (bed bus)
Hostel ablaze
We are fairly certain it was caused by the shady contractor who ran out of the building moments before, but regardless all credit for our survival goes to the incredibly brave Santiago F.D. (and Jord, who I think taught them a thing or two) instead of the normal crappy semi-cama and were really happy with where the extra $10 went. We had an awesome T.V. right in front of us, fake leather seats that were really wide, a private section in the lower level of the bus, blankets, pillows, food etc. This was not the first time on a cama bus but it was the first time we went out of our way (in fact stayed an extra day in Bariloche) just to get one. Too many crappy semi-cama sleeps brought pain to our legs. Also, they had a hot shot lottery on the bus where Jord won a bottle of wine, we were all quite excited until he failed to hit the mark on his acceptance speech. Ry and I were not even sure since we were in the downstairs of the bus enjoying the VIP pleasures while Jord had to go to the top of the bus to claim his wine.
Mendoza was so/so in my eyes, the city itself was quite big, and the downtown area where all the bars were was amazing, problem was because of Easter weekend, it was completely empty. Back home a long weekend would bring
The Andes
Cruising through the Andes on our way from Mendoza to Santiago. out all kinds of excitement, especially in April, down here though I guess everyone was doing a lot of family stuff because the night life certainly suffered (others I talked to elsewhere reported the same thing). Sadly, the city could have been quite exciting, we showed up there for the weekend and found some fun stuff to do and a couple nice watering holes but nothing like we had expected. Regardless, we found time to visit a winery, and now we are educated in the ways of manufacturing and tasting of wine... real important stuff.
I fell ill in Mendoza, which sucked but not the worst place to get sick, just spent a day taking it easy and luckily I managed to finish Dune, which was great. Not much to do Easter Sunday there anyways! Our room was full of idiots, including this goof from Victoria who raised hell because he thought someone stole his pants and underwear, suspicions reached an all time high and finally he just let it go, no idea why... (maybe because nobody would fit into his shitty pants??) and then this annoying German and guy from Chile... really irritating, regardless we all made it
Easter Chocolate
Rapa Nui, the best (note our first class bus seats) through O.K. Jord and I are now in Santiago where a fire attacked our Hostel last night and found us as refugees walking the streets at 10:00pm in search of a place to sleep while this Spanish guy just lost it when he came back to the hostel to see his bag silhouetted in his window with smoke everywhere. Some sort of Chilean senator showed up (owner of the building) Jord and I couldn´t get on T.V. which sucked, oh well there is always tonight! Pretty upset that we will miss Frank here in Santiago by about 7 hours, we bought bus tickets north and then about 5 hours after that he emailed us saying he would be here the same day!!
Also, I posted some photos to my previous entry, so enjoy.

Fake. All of it.
The so-called "Freaky Guy" looks a lot like James. You know what I think? I think this whole blog is written from somewhere in Vancouver. It's all painted landscapes and actors.
