Alta Garcia is a distant and small suburb of Cordoba that has the odd distinction of being the childhood home of ¨Che" (go look it up if you dont´know, silly), and of Falla, who I learned was a very distinguished turn-of-the-century-composer, originally from Spain. So I went out there to see it. Mostly, I found I was enchanted by the small and happy town. A river ran through the center and most of the town was down there at three in the afternoon sitting in the shade and standing in the river. The quite tree lined streets reminded me of any north american settled and old suburb. I noticed that one of the reasons this comparison was so striking was that lilacs were growing along the roads. I love that smell! Unlike the midwest, you can ... read more

Cordoba & Alta Gracia South America » Argentina » Cordoba » Alta Gracia By Nori NellJune 24th 2007Narelle & Paul Hola Amigos! I am no longer in Cordoba, in fact I am in Brazil and left Cordoba what seems like forever a go.... but....I did go there! And left there pretty quickly! I´m sure it´s a great city, I just didn´t really take to it :( Maybe because we had just left Rosario and I had loved it there! Anyway.... we wandered around Cordoba for a day and due to a killer bus ride the night before we headed to bed early! Which is probably the problem, as Cordoba i... read more

Today I went about 35 kms away from Cordoba city to Alta Gracia, where Che Guevara spent most of his childhood. We went to a Jesuit Estancia first, somewhat cool, got too see old Jesuit furniture. I think Ive seen enough Jesuit stuff for a while now though. After that we went to Che´s house, didnt really know too much about Che before going, and now I still dont know much about him, but I do know what his bathroom looked like. It was very interesting to see his house though, had alot of his things on display, spent a good 2 hours or so there. I am interested in learning more about him, I think people here either love him or hate him. Short blog, but thats all I have done so far today. ... read more

It is our last day in Cordoba and it is about time to leave Cordoba and our seedy hostel room... Hopefully, our next room is a bit nicer and the owner a bit more reserved. The people were nice, but a bit too much with all their questions and trying to organise 'day trips' with us. Anyway, we had a great time swimming in the river as we haven´t done this before. The water is deep enough to swimm and jump into the river and there is a lovely sandy beach. We were lazy and didn't bother to walk to get to a more secluded area and just stopped after 5 minutes. It was really hot and although I was using suncream and stayed in the shadow, I managed to get burnt and now I am ... read more
