I left the big white fluffy snow of Boston, on a 2 hour delayed flight, to NY and onward to Buenos Aires. A friend who I had met 7 years ago In London (and kept in touch with) picked me up at the airport with 2 of her friends. It was a 30 minute drive into the city of Buenos Aires and I soon discovered the Argentinian driving style....or lack ther eof. It´s crazy, there might as well be no lines or lanes on the road, cars just weaving in and out, driving so close to the car in front that if they even touch their brakes I´ll be sitting in their back seat...it was awesome...exactly how I always want to drive. Anyway, after a stop at the gas station (to fill up the car with ... read more

I finally did my laundry here. It was quite an experience. Everyone had told me that all you do is take your clothes in a bag and they do it for you. Well this is not true for the one that I went to. I walked in there thinking I was going to hand over my laundry and found an actual laundry mat. It caught me so off guard that I forgot how to even say simple words in Spanish. Luckily there was a lady there who showed me how to use the machines. I didn't realize that I had paid for soap and 2 loads of wash at the same time. It was only 2,80 which is under a dollar in US money. So yeah washing my clothes was an experience, and at least now ... read more

Buenos Aires An incredibly beautiful city, huge like london and also hilarious and unexpected as well. The highlights included meeting the nicest Sikh Family in Buenos Aires (they happenend to be the only one in Buenos Aires but thats another story), the Antiques Fair in San Telmo and the Presidents Pink Palace. The Three Pilgrims The first day we arrived in Buenos Aires we were feeling pious so we decided to visit our respective places of worship (a Gudwara for Manjit and Mandir for Suhirtha and I). I am not sure if this was because we had a huge religious conversion or we were just hoping to be fed some Indian food (i suspect it was the latter). Manjit had looked up the address of the only Sikh Temple in Argentina so off we went to ... read more

Has anyone seen a short fat Argentinian recently? No, well we have. Went to watch Boca Juniors on Sunday and who should be there but El Diego himself, Diego Maradona. But I'll come back to that in a minute. Friday night's trip to a nightclub was interesting, to say the least. All of Buenos Aires nightclubs have been closed for about a month since a big fire in one of the clubs. Since then they've all been having to meet health and safety regulations and in true Latin American style have taken a while. Anyway, Friday night we went to one of the first of the clubs to reopen, a place called Sunset. It was a pretty nice place, with a big outside dance area which was useful when it got too hot. The culture over ... read more

I moved in with my family on Saturday. It's been really cool so far. I live with a woman named Iris who is probably in her 50s. She has 2 older children one 28 and one 30. Iris and I live on Rivadavia which is the road that divides the city in half. Yesterday Iris took me on a tour of the places around us. I swear within like 6 blocks there is everything you{d ever need. There's a huge supermarket and a laundry mat and the sub station all right by me. It's really nice. The buses here are terrible. I still haven{t figured them out. I can get on fine, but getting off is a trick. I guess you have to know what your stop looks like so you can tell the conductor to ... read more

Hey everyone!! Just wanted you all to know that I'm finally here! It's been quite an experience so far. The flight was awful! I was dreading it so much. I felt so sick on the way over here, but as soon as I got off the plane I was fine! How annoying. We started our orientation and everything and Buenos Aires is so different from home. Tomorrow we actually get to meet our homestay families. I'm pretty excited for that. This city is huge! I don't think I've left the hotel once yet without getting lost. Everyone smokes here. This is something I was expecting when I got down here, but I wasn't prepared when I walked into the hotel into a cloud of smoke. There's so much to tell... Walking downt the street is quite ... read more

Crikey, how are you all? It's been a while since we last spoke. What's new with you? Am writing this update in a cybercafe in Buenos Aires, after an 18 hour bus ride from Foz do Iguaçu. Before carrying on, let me jump back a few days to the last time we spoke. Santa Catarina was pretty cool, and we stayed there for about 4 days. The one downside was that there really wasn't a lot to do apart from lounge about on the beach and top up our tans (bummer). We did make it out one night, despite a power cut that wiped out the whole island. We found a club a few miles away and got a lift off a mate of the waiter in the bar that we were in, because taxis are ... read more
