CITY TOUR
A lovely sculpture, petals open in the day and close at night!Docked 8.00a.m. in Buenos Aires - in a working port - so had to be bused to the cruise terminal from our ship. Warned in advance of the increased muggings, petty crime, taxi scams and snatch and grab thieves in recent times in this city, dress down, no jewellery, don't use outside ATMs etc etc We thought we would just re acquaint ourselves with this beautiful city as its about 12 years since we were here last. Decided to do the Hop on Hop off bus - as you can get off when you want and get back on - though we still did walk around 11kms. There are just hundreds of gorgeous buildings, sculptures, parks and rec areas - its no wonder it is called the "Paris of South America" - it would have to be the most European feeling city in South America. They have done a lot of work down on the riverside with lots of restaurants and bars etc. Went to a lot of previously seen landmarks as well as some new, even though we had three days here before, definitely wanted to go to Caminita in La Boca again - the arty, music area with all

Lovely sculptures the coloured houses also home to La Boca Football - thats where we spent a couple of hours watching the Tango Dancing and browsed the shops, but walked a bit out of the area of Caminita and had a fantastic steak lunch with their local Quilmes Stout - but not really like our stout just a fabulous dark beer! Back on the bus and back into the downtown to find some wine and beers to take back onto the ship. On our way walking back to the ship nearly fell for the age old trick of where there is a lot of pidgeons - some thief (usually in twos) spray a substance on your clothing and they rush to "help" get the "pidgeon poo" off your clothes and fleece you in the meantime - when this happened we were fully aware and John just turned and threatened to punch the guy who had his accomplice close by. They didn't try anything thank god but we had to walk back to the ship with all this greenish, grey dirty cement like water all over our head and backs. Thats Buenos Aires!!
