OLD CITYOLD CITYOLD CITY

Very peaceful park
What an exceptional day we have had! This place is so lovely! Docked at 9,00a.m. our guide Fabian was waiting for us at the port, we had booked with him before we left Australia, private tour just the two of us, tour included the old city, to a boutique winery, the newer city, beaches and back to the port market which is full of BBQ places. Uruguayans very proud of their country, 3.4 million people and 1.4 of them in Montevideo , Fabian born and bred in Uruguay but Italian descent, 90 percent of Uruguay is Italian and Spanish, such lovely people. First to the old city, all the sites and then Fabian took us to the local market, which I love going to these sort of places where the locals shop, bought some wine, had fantastic coffees and bought some beans as well. The Bouza Winery was just the best, had a tour of the whole winery and vineyard - then taken to their private museum, a collection of vintage motor bikes and old, old cars, - just sensational! The guy who owns this place is in the top 5 richest people in Uruguay - his dad had a local

bakery and they just worked their way up - the winery was derelict until 1982 when they bought it - it is just a beautiful oasis. Then to their restaurant, which is one of the best settings, for tasting of some of their exceptional wines and tapas plates - then had buy some wine and they also make grappa which we purchased as well - how are we going to get this all back on the boat!! Fabian dropped us back at the Port Market which is just full of BBQ grill places, and took us to his mate, who we met at the coffee shop at the local market, who looked after us very well, we had the most fantastic rib eye steak with all the trimmings, 3 litres of beers and a bottle of their local Tannat red wine - they say the grape is from France but never heard of it before - great drop!! Did get all the grog on board without a problem - but they did say to John, looking in his backpack, "sir the alcohol table is over there to book your wine in" yeh! yeh! by the time we got to the

table we had forgotten - you supposedly can only bring two bottles of wine on when you board to take to your cabin.
