From Iguazu we took a 20 hour bus ride to Buenos Aires...Apparently, Argentina is the king of bus companies...We got three meals and they played English movies...which was AMAZING...So based on the advice of some English guys we met in Florianopolis...We booked tickets to a concert in Buenos Aires called Creamfields...Our friend Preston is living in Buenos Aires at the moment so we met up with his friend Rory and caught a cab to the event...It had 4 stages and tons of house music and lasted till 6am...We of course did not last until then but it was the craziest music festival we have been to...ever...The next day we went to a nearby open air market called San Telmo...There are tons of vendors selling antiques, jewelry, food and trinkets....There were also a ton of people dressed up in costume like Rapunzel, cavemen and country western saloon girls...They basically sit in booths and you can take pictures of them for money...Quite an odd way to spend a Sunday...That afternoon we met up with our Irish friends from Iguazu and walked to the Presidential Palace and had some beers in the park...That night we had our first of many steak dinners and called
it an early night...The next day we left Millhouse Hostel and moved into an apartment with our friend Preston...It was so nice to have our own room and an attached bathroom...That night we went out to Parilla with Preston´s roommates...Red Meat dinner number two...Parilla is a mixed grill of a ton of different types of meat...Chicken, ribs, steak, sausage and blood sausage...We didn´t try the blood sausage based on the principle that it is composed of some really disgusting animal parts...The next day we walked around downtown and had lunch at the knockoff version of Chipotle...Argentine´s do not understand the concept of spicy...haha...Our apartment is above an expat bar called the Alamo...There are a ton of english speakers and on Tuesday nights they have beruit...Plus, girls get free beer Monday through Friday from 8am to midnight...It is the most ridiculous thing we have encountered...It makes me wonder how they stay in business...Wednesday we cruised around the city and had some McDonalds for lunch...It is quite an establishment here...It has two stories and wifi...I think they take fast food quite seriously...That night we decided to take a break from red meat and hit up this sushi place called Dashi...Thursday we visited Recoleta cemetary...It is where Eva Peron is buried and it houses tons of huge crypts that are really extravagantly designed...It´s actually kind of creepy...There were a ton of cats and it was really quiet and empty...Plus you can see inside of some of the crypts and there are coffins just close enough to touch...That night we went to dinner at a steak joint (I know weird...more red meat) called La Cabrera...Tons of people had recommended it and it did live up to our expectations...Friday we chilled out around our apartment before meeting some friends from Rio for some drinks and at a club called Crowbar...Saturday was the birthday of one of Preston´s friends...So we joined them at the casino for some gambling...Of course Elizabeth and I walked away losers but some of Preston´s friends ended up making a little money...For dinner we had some street vendor sandwhiches called vaciopan...Basically it is a slab of steak (At this point I don´t know if I can have steak for another 6 months) on a french roll...Don´t be fooled by the simplicity...It was one of the best meals so far...Later that night we met up with some more friends from Rio at a club called Pacha...Sunday was a really mellow day...We just stayed around the apartment all day and had a drink or two at the bar downstairs...On a sidenote, the empanadas here are way better than those rubbish meat filled pastries they had in Brazil...We will be here until Wednesday at which point we fly into New Zealand...Hope all is well!!! Miss you all!!! K and E
