Mariahilf Monastery

As we continued up the Inn on the left side of the boat, some call it the "port" side, the Wallfahrtskirche Mariahilf climbed up the hillside. One of the medieval Prince Electors brought back a painting of the Virgin Mary from a trip to Rome. Not only did he love it but a lot of the locals admired it and claimed miracles because of it. The Prince Elector built a chapel for it but it was quickly found to be too small. Subsequently a bigger church, then an abbey were built. Pilgrims climbed up to the chapel housing the painting on their knees by way of a steep staircase ascending the hillside. That long structures coming down from the abbey is the roof covering those stone steps.
