Pointe du Hoc - a strategic position that was critical to the success of the D-Day invasion. From here German forces could shell the D-Day beaches, several kilometres away. 300 US Army rangers were tasked with capturing the guns - imagine scaling these cliffs with grappling hooks and ladders borrowed from London fire departments, while you're being shelled. Not an easy task! Making their task even more difficult, an error resulted in them landing a few kilometres further from the guns than they had intended. And then ... the guns they were supposed to take out had been moved FARTHER away from where they had expected them to be.
