My courtyard

The tiny apartment I rented in La Candelaria was in a historical building that was every bit as colonial as the UNESCO World Heritage site in Cartagena. I loved the colonial architecture, even if I was horrified by what I learned about the human toll of colonization.

When I told people in Cartagena that I was headed to Bogota for New Year's they all shuddered, telling me that it was too cold in Bogota.
