Mona Lisa/ La Gioconda

My favorite part of this painting is the Colombian background behind the Mona Lisa. Note the volcano behind her left shoulder. Botero didn't only paint the people of Colombia, he painted still lifes, famous painters like Cézanne and even Colombian officials, including the president and first lady.

When I told people in Cartagena that I was headed to Bogota for New Year's they all shuddered, telling me that it was too cold in Bogota.
