Those Peculiar Buildings

To the left is the Scottish National Monument. It was intended to honor the Scottish veterans of the Napoleonic Wars. The project was supposed to result in a replica of the Parthenon in Athens. Money ran out before the building could be completed. The other structure is the Nelson Monument dedicated to the great Lord Admiral of Trafalgar fame. It is supposed to look like an upside down telescope. At the top is a ball that falls every day at 1:00, the same time a big cannon at Edinburgh Castle is fired. This is intended to notify the ships in the harbor of the correct time.
Day Two Where We Try To Find Something to Do

Merry Christmas to us. In the spirit of the holiday I allowed everyone to sleep in a bit. Had it been any other day I would have had us out exploring the city at the break of dawn.
