Friday Harbor was founded in 1909 and celebrates its Centennial this summer. The town has a population of 2,000, normally, and San Juan Island has a population of 8,000. During July and August, the population increases to half a million as the jazz concerts and summer arts fair swing into activity. It's a 90-minute drive from Seattle to Anacortes.
