Ottheinrichsbau

Heidelberger Schloss - Heidelberg Castle. Ottheinrichsbau. "The irregular grouping of the buildings reveals at once the lack of any systematic plan in their construction. This, however, is directly responsible for the picturesqueness of the general effect, which is further enhanced by clinging ivy and the verdant trees. The two most interesting buildings are the Otto-Heinrichs-Bau, on the E., and the Friedrichs-Bau on the N., both constructed of red Neckar sandstone, with sculptures and details in yellowish sandstone from Heilbronn. The Otto-Henrich-Bau, begin in 1556, the finest example of German early-Renaissance style, rises in three stories, partly of the Ionic and partly of the Corinthian order, with a strong emphasis on horizontal lines."--Baedeker 1911.
