Monumento dos Restauradores

"At the beginning of the avenida, in the Praça dos Restauradores, stands the Monumento dos Restauradores de Portugal. an obelisk 98 ft.high, erected in 1882 to commemorate the rising of Dec. 1st, 1640, by which the yoke of the Spanish 'Intrusos' was thrown off and an end put to the 'sixty years' slavery'.
