New Cape Spear lighthouse, constructed in 1955. Concrete tower 45 feet (13.7 m) tall. It uses the Fresnel lens from the Old Cape Spear Lighthouse. Cape Spear, Newfoundland is the easternmost point in North America. DSC_1047

Peering out our cabin window at 6:30 a.m., I saw we were off Cape Spear, Newfoundland, with its flashing lighthouse. It had taken Caribbean Princess two days to sail down from Nanortalik, Greenland, to reach St. Johns's.
