The Piazza, della Signoria, with the Palazzo Vecchio and the Loggia dei Lanzi, once the forum of the republic, and the scene of its popular assemblies and tumults, its festivals and executions, is still an important centre of business and pleasure. ... Florence sightseeing began with an early morning visit to the Galleria dell'Accademia. There is usually a long queue to enter, so this was a wise first stop. Souvenier shops line Via Ricasoli, the street next to the Galleria. Naturally, they sell Michelangelo related items, especially ones relating to David.
