Another amazing miracule or the amazing luck we have all the time: we are renting a car from a very "cheap company". There aren't much guarantees for what you get. So when we called Saturday morning to say we are coming for the car they only had a small 2-door Suzuki. We have so many things, food etc, how would we manage? We could choose to wait till noon, maybe they'll have more cars but we decided that since there are no guarantees we better take what they have. By the time we reached the agency 1/2 hour later, a bigger car arrived! We couldn't believe our luck, or in fact, it's amazing how much of it we have here all the time. On Saturday we drove north from Wellington to Wanganui. There were two main ... read more

The Warren Conservation park was brilliant. The park is just outside of Williamstown in South Australia. It was a well marked secluded trail that goes around a valley then to the top of a hill where a fire tower provides excellent views to the sea and to the north - brialliant. Then you descend into the gully and find some interesting rocks (like shark tooth) and an absolutely enormous spider!! I would recommend this walk to anyone - it was great.

Well, we survived our 3 day sailing trip (even though someone brought bananas on board - v. bad luck) so we aren't totally jinxed when it comes to boats. The Whitsundays really are as beautiful as the pictures and we had a great crew (who were all younger than the passengers!) Made lots of new friends, including a Dodgers' fan, which made the trip for Karl. We all slept on deck under the stars and with the help of lots of medication (and beer) I managed not to throw up once. Once back on land we had a little farewell party with everyone in Airlie Beach and made our way down to Hervey Bay the next day. Back to the beach now...... read more

Okay...so you never got the story to go along with the photos from the last few journals. I still may attempt to add some text, but perhaps not. All apologies. Here are some more photos from a short stay in Melbourne, the beginnings of the GRO tour and some additional GRO pics. I missed my first flight on Friday night because I miscalculated my flight time (brilliant!) but made up for in on Saturday when I arrived...... read more

That's it! bye bye south island, north island here I come! Yesterday morning we boarded the Interislander ferry for the 3 hours trip from Picton to Wellington. Wellington is not the most beautiful city. There are some nice buildings here but the overall design could have been better. Still there are pubs open late - as we didn't see so far in NZ, and one could have some fun. We did have some beers and even danced to the live music in an Irish pub here. Unfortunately, due to Easter they had to close at midnight, otherwise they are open till 3, 4 or 5AM. The main attraction of the city is "Te Papa" (Maori for "our place") museum. It's a museum about the history of NZ from all points of view - creation of the ... read more
