For Rihla number eight I decided to research roman bathing and bathing rituals. There were ms yu terracing things tha I found out and here thet are:
- for the Romans bathing was a communal thing while for others it is a private thing
-Took baths in huge places called thermaes. The richer could afford their own bathing facilities in their house.
-Held up to 3000 bathers.
-Social and recreational activity
- came from the Greeks
- Apodyterium, frigidarium, tepidarium, caldarium.
- ritual was undressing, bathing, sweating, getting a message, and finally resting.
- depending on your social class the bathing spot would be much bigger or smaller. But usually there was not that much discrimination towards classes because it was seen as such a sacred thing.
- the Romans saw bathing as fine art.
