we left mnt maunganui and made our way towards rotorua which is where the thermal road starts, it was a lovely drive and we made our way up the east side of the lake and had a stroll along owhatta falls and then drove into rotorua which is a lovely place, we had to decide which volcanic area to visit so we chose the one where it all comes to the surface and you can walk round it rather than a boat trip, you can see from the pictures how good it was.
we left the area and made our way to napier and the drive was out of this world, imagine the lake district or peak district and times it by ten, it took the breath away.
we reached napier and the tourist office sent us to a homestay and we got to this fantastic house on top of the hill and the people were great, john and karyn who had lived in england for a while had a couple of friends staying and invited us to dinner, we had a lovely dinner and then went for a walk round the town which was destroyed by and earthquake in 1931
