Sunset over the Pacific
This is at Otaki. Can you see Australia? Wow!
So much has happened since I last wrote! I’ll start with my first weekend back in New Zealand. I say New Zealand because I wasn’t even in Wellington! I went to a research weekend for the various academic departments of general practice and primary health care around NZ. It was up in Otaki (near the beach). I felt a little young and academically out of my depth, but I met a lot of cool people and had a really good time! On the way up the car I was in (which had seven of us) stopped for dinner at a Cambodian restaurant… it was a little random, but very nice (and cheap)! Most of the weekend consisted of different presentations on research of all different kinds. It was really interesting and I found out that I am a parasomniac (I sleep walk and sleep talk). Saturday afternoon I chose the bludgy option of going into the town and going shopping. Apparently it’s an outlet hub. I counted six. Amazing. Then I headed to the beach which had grey sand but I got a few nice photos of the sun making it’s way down over the ocean (which I haven’t

I mean really, who wears a scarf at the beach? seen that much). After a yummy dinner on Saturday night we had ‘Academic Idol’. Basically everyone was split into 4 groups and then had a choice of songs and box of props and had 30 minutes to create a performance. I was the MC but I also performed - my team chose “Like a Virgin”. It was hilarious! I have photos, but I don’t want to get fired! 😊 Some of us stayed up till 1am singing and chatting. It was lots of fun.
The past week was filled up with working and studying and FANTASTIC weather. I don’t want to jinx it, but we’ve had 8 days straight of sunny skies and it hasn’t been too windy. Sterls pointed out that I usually complain about the weather, so here are some photos to show that the weather is lovely in Wellington sometimes.
Friday night was lots of fun. I went out to celebrate Mexican Independence one day early. So after cooking Mexican for dinner, I salsaed until almost 2am! It was great! I love dancing. There were some performances of different styles of Latin American dancing at the first place that I went to and there was

Kirkaldie and Stains - the big department store in town. a live band at the second place. 😊
Saturday I decided to hit the town and went shopping, taking some photos of the lovely sunny weather of my new city. I had a yummy crepe and some ice cream and headed to the museum, Te Papa, to watch a Global Dance Celebration which was on for “dance your socks off”, a month-long celebration of dance in Wellington. It was really cool. My favourite was the dance from the Amazon! Very very cool! I found out that there were some more official Mexican Independence celebrations on Saturday night, but after cooking a very spicy Mole and my big night on Friday followed by my big day on Saturday I just crashed!
After doing my hand washing on Sunday, Briar and I went to the botanic gardens to take advantage of the fantabulous weather. We walked around for a few hours in the afternoon and I got some nice shots of flowers and of Briar! Sunday night was uneventful - cleaned my room and watch NZ idol and a mediocre J.Lo movie. But otherwise I had a pretty good week!
This week I’m back to studying and working again.

I love how there isn't a shopping centre, so you can enjoy the nice weather and go shopping! Only two weeks until Boz comes! YAY!
Vegemite is the best.
