Self portrait..... Kia Ora campers,
Its been sometime and I thought it best to do one of these before we go off on holiday for a month.
Well, hasn't life changed for us! Its been fantastic so far - Ailsa is a wee star not just because she sleeps right through the night (yay!) but when she's awake she clearly enjoys life, wants to learn and smiles a lot which is all great stuff! She turns heads when she's out and will definitely be a heartbreaker!
She's certainly had her moments and the few couple of weeks were hard especially on Jo-Ann who was drained by the er, challenging(!) labour and the constant feeding. We were both totally freaked out on the 3rd day when the milk came through and the poor wee girl couldn't get on and get it and then when the midwife told us she might have Spina Bifida we shat ourselves for a week until she got the all clear from the Paediatrician. I honestly could have kissed him when he confirmed that to us.
She has changed our lives for sure but in a very positive way and while we miss that bit of
freedom, we don't miss the pubs and clubs one bit. We've still done things that require a bit of effort like going with Ailsa to the annual Toast Martinborough Wine, Food & Music Festival a couple of weeks ago. We usually go en masse on a bus but we just took the car and Jo-Ann was designated driver (well, she has to supply the milk - I don't!). It was another glorious day weather-wise and the wine was smashing. Ailsa was good on the day but took a while to drop off and took some coaxing.
Jo-Ann often takes her to the cinema in the morning - a couple of the local cinemas do special screenings for mum (and dad's ) and babies which is a great idea and they set up a change table and don't dim the lights as much as usual so you can see what you're doing. Her day is a very busy one and she doesn't get anywhere near as much spare time as she'd like as Ailsa is very keen to be awake as much as possible during the day to observe and learn and badger her mum for food. However, she is
loving her time off and being a Mum.
I love having such a great reason to leave work at 5 no matter what (in saying that, I left at 7:15 today!) and get home early to get a bit of daddy bonding time. Bathtime is fun!
So that's parenthood - what else have we been up to? Well not that much! Apart from Toast Martinborough, we've been for loads of walks with our new parent friends (not the ones form our ante-natal class) and their bubs along the south coast but mostly in the Botanics which is only 20 mins stroll from where we live. Jo-Ann actually walked past Academy Award winner Sigourney Weaver in the Botanics who was strolling througnb with a companion - she;s in town filming James Cameron's new sci-fi movie Avitar. Jo-Ann was with Vanessa and her friend Sarah and Sigourney Weaver commented on Sarah's wee puppy - she thought later how funny it would have been to say back to her "get away from her, you bitch!" You'd have to have seen the Alien movies to get that one and it would actually probably have been the equivalent of that father Ted episode
where Ted and Dougal try the whole episode to get close enough to Richard Wilson to say "I don't believe it!" and then Ted gets his head kicked in.
Anyway, I need to go to bed as I'm knackered - last day before 4 weeks holiday is always crazy at work and we're moving buildings this weekend so I had to pack as well.
Yes, 4 weeks holiday and trust us to spend our summer holiday in Scotland in December! We'll be in Edinburgh from 12th to 20th Dec then up to my folks at Kincraig then back to Edinburgh on 23rd or 24th for Christmas then back up north on the 27th and back down to Edinburgh on the 31st and the flying out on the 2nd! Short notice to let most of you know - we'll try to catch up with as many as we can but we'll be restricted a bit with wee Ailsa and the fact that we haven't done much Christmas shopping yet!
We can be reached at Jo-Ann's Mum's on 0131 498 7143 while we're in Edinburgh and on 01540 651 525 while we're up north and also at awgalloway@gmail.com and
jo.galloway@gmail.com if you want to get in touch!!
Cheers for now!
