Me
First night in Wellington Wellington
The capital of New Zealand, lying on the bottom tip of the North Island. This city has been very fun for me for the last 4 months. The Downtown Backpackers is the hostel that I have been staying at since my arrival into Wellington. Most of the good times that I've had have been in this hostel. Befriending the majority of the staff, staying there has seemed like a new home for me in the past few months. Many of late nights in the bar, playing guitar and talking with people has been very fun and rewarding.
Feathers Tavern
I have experienced much away from the hostel as well. I started a job at a pub called "Feathers Tavern" when I first arrived, and worked that job until July 6th. That job wasn't exactly the best job I've had, but the staff made up for it. I met a lot of people, mostly New Zealanders, and had some good times out on the town with them. Working here also increased my culinary skill. I learned about a lot of new foods and methods that up until now I have been very unaware of. For example,

Paul and I I learned how to make crisps, which are basically like American chips. Every day (Monday - Friday) at 5:30 I had to have a number of bowls of crisps ready, which were given to whatever customers we had in the pub at the time. Although giving away food doesn't help in making money, I think it made the regulars enjoy the business that much more. Also, on Thursday and Friday we would make platters which the girls would walk around with and let customers pick off of. The platters consisted of Samosas, Skewers, Chicken Wings, Spring Rolls, Fish Nuggets, etc. This type of platter would be an ideal plate for me to bring to a Boudreau Christmas Party. When I get home I think I will do this.
Currently, I am working my new job at a Subway just down the road from the Hostel. The hours are much better, and I have more opportunity to spend time with people, and experience the city the way I should be, not having to work every night. It's kind of a step down from restaurants, but is fun in it's own way. The staff are all happy-go-lucky people, and there is

In front of the McDonalds menu that Daniel stole from the Pick-up window no yelling at one-another and hostility like most restaurant kitchens. What's fun about it, is I have to talk to customers a lot. Obviously, I have to ask what bread they want and talk to them as I make their sub. Usually it doesn't take long for them to notice that I'm not from New Zealand. I get asked if I am Canadian or Irish a lot. It's funny, because I have met lots of Irish people, and I dont think that I sound like them at all. Somehow people pinpoint me as Irish haha. Whatever, it's all good. When I tell people that I am American, sometimes they say "oh you sound canadian" and I always reply. "I basically am, I'm only 2 hours from the border". Regardless, the attitude over here is great. People are so friendly, and it makes working at a place like Subway really fun.
Pictures
The pictures below are scattered between friends i've made, friends working at the hostel, pictures I took at the zoo when Daniel and Emma came down to visit me, and some random pictures of buildings, etc.
