My First WWOOFing Adventure; Part Two October 27th The Second Day I did a lot more sanding and painting today. A couple of Mori men stopped by for a little while in the morning to work on some pluming in the back yard. We all took a break for a cup of tea together. The Mori men assured me they didn’t eat humans. I said, “Good, I don’t either.” (I’m starting to pick up more of the cultural and social discrepancy between the Mori descendants and the European dependence. It’s an interesting cultural dynamic. Maybe sort of like the Native Americans and the European Americans, but I don’t think that’s quite it either. It’s hard to play anthropologist with such a limited population to base my ideas off of. My First WWOOFing Adventure; Part Three October 28th The Third Day My morning was spent tending to the cosmetic needs of Julia Roberts. Julia Roberts being the name of a sail boat, of course. My First WWOOFing Adventure; Part Four October 29th The Fourth and Final Day I continued to work on restoring the sail boat this morning. It was hot and very sunny and I was thankful for the hose and my water bottle. I also found out that my hiking boots really are as waterproof as they claim to be. After lunch we all took a short rest because all of us were exhausted. Then it was time for me to start heading back to Hamilton. We got the whole group together (including the dog) for a quick photo and off to the bus station we went. I was surprised that Eric stayed with me until the bus came. He even went up to the driver to make sure I was getting on the right bus. Hmm, he ... read more

My First WWOOFing Adventure; Part One October 26th The first Day “WWOOF” = World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms So basically WWOOF is an organization that connects financially disadvantaged travelers with a keen sense of adventure (like me!) with people all over any given country who have farms or small pieces of property that they could use some help maintaining. The travelers get free meals and accommodations, the locals get a little free labor, and a genuine cultural exchange is shared by all. Everybody wins! Plus as a traveler, you get a more real and authentic travel experience, getting to live with and know the natives on a more personal level. And as far as my very limited experience so far has shown, the hosts seem pretty enthusiastic to show you around the area and proud ... read more
