The last great holiday break for new zealand until November is Easter weekend (easter friday and monday) or four full days. Since my last trip through this region I decided that I must return during autumn to see the spectacular colours of eastwoodhill arboretum. One of my biggest complaints about NZ is that we don't have proper north american falls. The colour here at this time of year is a dull green... none of the reds, oranges, yellows, pumkins, falling leaves brisk mornings and crisp evenings.... but 30 minutes drive outside Gisborne an idividual had a dream that he couldreproduce what he saw during WWI in england here in NZ on his farm.... 90 odd years later we have eastwoodhill - the southern hemisphere's large collection of norther hemisphere trees. http://www.eastwoodhill.org.nz/ I've kept the post short ... read more

Gisborne At last - wine country!!! Gisborne is a nice town with some lovely beaches for surfing nearby. The trouble was, it was so windy all the time we were there that it was a nightmare on any beach as the sand was just being whipped up and covered us constantly. We did a bit of swimming but that was it. Crazy golf was the next thing on the agenda - I scored TWO holes in one - Rob's face was a picture!!! I surged on to a jubillant victory! 2:1 the overall score so far around NZ (to Rob), but I'm hitting a spot of form now, so that could all change! Next we headed off to Rere Falls, which were beautiful. We had a picnic lunch there, then I swam in the swimming hole ... read more

We got up early and piled on the mini bus and fell asleep again until the evil smells of Rotorua filled our noses. we jumped off had an energy drink and then met our new driver. We were told he was called sexy rex because he was on the cover of a 1996 edition of Mens Health. This, my friends was a lie. He was not! He was however an ex rally driver. And boy did we know it! The next four days he threw us around in a minibus as if it was a subaru, supercharge, v8! We zipped through to Gisborne and arrive and hour and a half early...we did a quick food shop and headed to Tatpouri, where we were met with Tea and Coffee. We had a lazy day, i sat in ... read more

We went on a Dolphin exploration looking for Taylors Bay Mahea to find the Dolphin. Dad went out really deep to touch it and they made friends. Dad took me out deep and I touched it as well it felt really rubbery and plasticy I touched it's tail its back and its fin and it started chasing me but it was shallow when it started chasing me, I was scared so I ran away. Me and Mitch saw a jellyfish but it didn't sting us Mum said not to go near it. On the way there I felt sick so mum said I had to sit in the front so Jake had to get out. By Aimee I touched the dophin and he swimed with me him and I swimed with him and daddy took me ... read more
