Good evening everyone, so we left Rotorua this morning, now looking back I think I was a bit deluded with regards our accomodation, yes it was drabby and dull but I think after Kiddi packers, it was just peace and quiet so I got carried away. We did our washing there and had to hang it up in an old shed which was red hot, Stu then said he was going to get his money's worth and go in the mineral pool, well no way that was at least 44 degrees, it was sooooo hot, I couldn't even get a leg in it, Stu tried desperately, I said 'give it up, you won't have any skin left', he continued trying, looking for control buttons around the pool but in the end was defeated. We drove off ... read more

Tim's 12. Geburtstag!

The fine weather has stayed with us as Wednesday dawned and we will have excellent driving conditions ahead to Christchurch where we will catch a plane home in the early evening. But first we have to draw ourselves away from Breakfast TV and get on the road. Watching TV in the morning as we are on holiday has been a bit addictive and our routine will have to return to normal when we get home or we will be late for work. Anyway it’s good to do different things when you are on holiday and that is all part of the break away from work routines to refresh the mind. With the bags in the car boot previously carrying our grocery items now all contained back to one suitcase, a small carry bag and backpack and ... read more

24thFebruary Tauranga, New Zealand Our first view of New Zealand is the approach to the city of Tauranga past Mount Maunganui on our port side and berthing in the port of Tauranga. Tauranga is the largest city in the Bay of Plenty and is a fast growing metropolis; its port is the largest in terms of gross export tonnage. The city is known for its export of avocados and kiwifruit. In Maori, Tauranga means ‘an anchorage’ or ‘resting place’ and it is believed that the Maoris settled here in the late 12th Century having made the sea crossing from Polynesia. Captain Cook (1879) was so impressed by the agricultural riches when he arrived on the Endeavour he named the area Bay of Plenty. Settlers took land that belonged to the Maoris which led to the ‘Land ... read more

TAURANGA, NZ AND KIWIFRUIT - CRUISE DAY 2 An 8:00 am tour and the first day at sea made the breakfast lines in the buffet an extreme challenge. Holland America’s policy for the first couple of days requires that passengers be served rather than self serve. The lines were too long, so I went without breakfast rather than put up with the frustration. I’ll make up the calories later. The weather was very nice and the 36 people on my tour had the pleasure of a pleasant bus driver and narrator to show us some of the highlights of the area as we drove through the city to the Georgian style Elms Mission House and gardens which was completed in 1847 by A. N. Brown on land purchased from Maori to carry out his missionary duties ... read more

Carey, Cath and Daryl were up bright and breezy to walk up the Mount-I decided to have a little bit longer in bed, and meet them for breakfast afterwards. We went to a little Cafe on the beachfront called the Slow fish-recommendation of Caths and what a lovely breakfast it was. Carey was trying to persuade Daryl to jack work in and move out here, and i was assured he'd be sorted out with a visa by the time we returned from our afternoon trip! Afterwards Cath and I picked the other girls up from the main house as we were going to the vineyard for lunch. It was Mills Reef winery in a little place not far from the port of Tueoranga, called Bethlehem which was nice and festive-especially for Jan who is finding the ... read more
