Day 5 Decided to stay all day at Bayview Wairakei Hotel. First strolled around the grounds, and discovered the large pool fed from a natural hot spring. Enjoyed swimming at 35 degrees, like a huge bath... Later there was a rugby debate with guest speakers Sam Warburton and Shaun Edwards, who entertainingly answered our (not too) searching questions and were willing victims for photos and signing anything to hand. With our winning tips success should surely follow... Day 6 Another coach transfer with our driver Len, always full of stories, this time off to Auckland. Checked into the hotel on the Quay, and then off into town. My "research" yielded another bar that brews beer-and some lunch, and then we went up the Sky Tower. Helen is not to keen on heights but was lured ... read more

Today is a ”chill out” day, as we are remaining at the Pappamoa Beach We get up at around 07:00 and go to the shower block to shower. We have agreed to use the shower and toilet in the campervan just for emergencies as neither of us fancy the “slopping out” bit. We had a late breakfast at around 10:00 After breakfast we went for a walk to the supermarket, which is nearby, to stock up on a few things. When we got back, I went for a walk along the beach and Di did some laundry. The beach goes on for “miles”. I had decided that I would walk towards Mount Maugani; I figured that it was about 10 km away. I walk about 5 km and the Mount is getting no nearer. I think ... read more

Hello everyone. We have had a lovely last two days here at Mount. Following the rainy day we woke to sunshine again – a bit of luck as it had been forecast for rubbish weather. So back to glorious sunshine with lashings of suntan cream factor 30 being used by me and Suz. After a brekki of “mum’s” poached eggs and a bit of lazing about food supplies were running low and as we were expecting visitors we went off to the local NewWorld supermarket to stock up…and to the veg stall down the road $5 ( £2.50) for a bag of 10 sweetcorn. …cheap as chips. Having been a bit bemused by the signs which said “stonefruit $5 a bag”I was wondering what a “stonefruit” was…but then my clever daughter looked at me as if ... read more

Well, been in New Zealand now for nearly 2 months. I started off by exploring Auckland for a day and then travelling down to Wellington to stay with my Jo and Duncan, my second cousins. I quite like both cities although I preferred Wellington, even though it hardly seemed like a city because it’s so small. After a couple of days in Wellington I headed out to the Wairarapa to begin work. I was working flat out doing long hours for about four weeks, mainly working down ground ready for planting which was pretty tiring but that’s about all there is to say about that. I’ve left there now because there isn’t really any work for about a month, I’m not sure if I’m going to go back there at the moment because I didn’t get ... read more

Still in Papamoa. Just wanted to add another entry to keep in the swing of it. We went to Auckland not long ago for Chases 18th, had a wee party and messed about in the pool. Luke went golfing and did a days work building a floor. It was gorgeus weather the whole time so we spent alot of it messing around in the pool and playing guitar and singing and stuff. Good times. Back in Paps now and we had a day to ourselves, tidied the house and Lukes cousin Daniel comes down with about 20 people for a party. They definetly ticked all the boxes for a party, every dish in the house used, spillages, someone got injured and lost alot of blood, lots of varied music and a standard massive fry up ... read more

Just returned to NZ after living in FNQ (Australia) for 6 months. Did heaps while there - hot air ballooning, parasailing, ATV'ing and horse riding through the mountains, snorkelling on the Great Barrier Reef (had previously dived it). Visited Green Island and Low Isles and also the Tablelands. Cuddled baby kangaroos and survived a heathen of a boss. I've sold up everything/moved overseas/returned and set up home again twice now and it hurts a bit, yet I would do it all again if I could! But now back in greener pastures and must be settled for my daughter who embarks on the high school journey next year. Will the itchy feet ever go away? I suspect not, though it's hard to live with. However I'm concentrating on a new career direction now, that offers me frequent ... read more

So still in Paps waiting on our flights to Australia, we're thinking of going to Sydney instead of Perth now because Perth is quite far out the way. Don't really know what we're doing. But that's the future and i can't write about that yet so where did i leave it? Yeah so i was living in Christchurch and working in a little bar that i pretty much cleaned 65 hours a week because there were very little customers. I did like it there though :) The earthquake was a big eye opener for me. When it was happening i didn't immidiatly think it was an earthquake, i thought something supernatural was happening, lol so stupid but then i thought the house was faling over. Then it stopped after like a full minute and alarms went ... read more

I don't know why today of all days, sitting in Papamoa library i decided to start up a travel blog because i've already travelled all of New Zealand and i'm waiting here in this little beach town until i fly to Australia on the 13th of January. I have written all my travelling down in my travel journal though, a leather one i got as a present. It's half full already and i'm about 7 months behind on it so the fact that i'm starting another travel blog online is a little...belated maybe. I'm sure i'll find the time to go into detail about my travels but just as a run down (and a reminder to me for when i come to it) here's what i've been up to for the last 16 months. We flew ... read more

Last Friday was my last day at the Apata pack house and Thursday I will be leaving Tauranga with Anne, a Malaysian girl at the hostel who was also working at Apata and is looking to get to Wellington. We’re going to head up north to the Hot Water Beach on the Coromandel Peninsula first, before going to Lake Taupo. I thought it would be a good idea to do it now as I’m not sure if I’ll be on the eastern side of the North Island again, though the timing may be a little unfortunate as it will still be part of school holidays for the kids here so we may find the beach a little crowded when we get there. We had a barbeque this past weekend as an early farewell for me and ... read more

Hello again all! Not too much going on in my life since I last updated you, I had a bit of a bug (aching muscles, sore throat, headache, and a little feverish) and was off work for 2 days but I’m almost over it now and will be back at work on Monday. I went to the doctor a few days ago and was quite surprised how cheap it was, $55NZ for the consult with lasted about 30 minutes and was prescribed a weeklong course of antibiotics (Amoxicillin + Clavulanic) and a lot of painkillers (100 Paracetamol ! Like I’d ever use all of them) and sent me on my way. So a weeks course of amoxicillin is 3 pills a day, once every meal, totalling 21 pills and guess how much it cost… $3! That ... read more
