On our way up north
Today we continued up north. We stopped in Whangarei, where we had our exhaust pipe cut and replaced with a new one. Adam got to go look at the old pipe, and said it looked like swiss cheese. So it's good we got it replaced. While the van was being worked on, we walked down to the harbor and got some ice cream. It was warm out so it tasted gooood. Adam tried the hokey pokey and I had a lemon cheesecake kind. It was nice. We got our van and went to the AH Reed Kauri Park, where we took a 30 minute walk around and part of it was a walkway up in the treetops. It was a nice break from the heat and a beautiful park.

Afterward we continued on a smaller road out the coast and saw some very beautiful views and beaches. We had lunch at Tutukaka beach in Matapouri. It was really nice. We also stopped off in Kawakawa to see (and use) the Hundertwasser Loo. A famous and beautiful public bathroom. Famous artist and architect Frederick Hundertwasser built this amazing public restroom. We went to see it because it sounded amusing, but was

struck at the beautiful design and decoration of the place.

We then kept driving until we reached the Bay of Islands. We have a site in Paihai that is right on the water....about 3 feet in front of us. It's a nice, secluded park. We drove into the town and got some information to help us figure out our last few days up here. We are going to try and go Blokarting (or land yachting) which looks like fun! Tomorrow we are going to head towards the west coast and possibly go up to Cape Reinga.
