Cricket
chilled at the cricket Well I'm now half way through by time in Auckland which is rather scary, but Fiona reminds me that I'm not allowed to mention that! On the up side, the cricket has improved, yay! I went to Eden Park last Friday with Olivia from school and one of her friends who happened to be back in Auckland on that day. It was really good fun; we paid a little more to get seats in the shade with back rests which was definitely worth while. We enojoyed a few mini bottles of wine and soaked up the atmosphere, which was great as we were surrounded by fellow Brits.
I decided to take myself on the 16km coast to coast walk on Saturday. I was quite surprised by how challenging it was, not only because I got terrible blisters, but also because it involved climbing not one, but two volcanoes. If you're interested in where I walked, the following should be a link to a map of it -
Coast to Coast Despite the rain and clouds, the view from Mount Eden was pretty awesome from every angle and there weren't too many tourists about! The second volcano, 'One Tree Hill', was quite steep
Mount Eden
Me at the top of Mount Eden and it was torture having cars drive past laughing at you! I was tempted to sample hitch hiking, but my conscience got the better of me. What was a little disappointing was that the view at the top was exactly the same as before, just a little further over, but I guess that's what I should have expected! I babysat that evening, and it was nice just to relax and numb my aching legs with wine!
Sunday was a fun day. I took the girls swimming with Adam in the morning, then got to work pinning/sewing/trimming labels onto bags for the deli with Fiona. It was the Devonport Food and Wine fesitval weekend, so I though I'd catch the ferry over and check it out. However, it was $40 to get in, then you had to buy all the food and drink once you were in so it seemed rather pointless. Instead I wandered around the shops and cafes and got a good feel for the place. I later met Adam, Fiona and the girls at their Devonport deli, before having a brilliant fish and chip supper on the beach. We also enjoyed some marble cake from the deli
One Tree Hill
One Tree Hill but the one tree was cut down! which was superb!
After swimming, I returned to the museum on Monday to cover the sections that I hadn't seen with the girls. I watched a Maori cultural performance which was really good and I got to see the Haka (scary!). The museum is really big, so it was hard to keep focussed in reading all the blurb, but they had some nice artefacts! They also had a nice memorial hall for all those who'd perished during the second world war which was interesting.
I went swimming again on Tuesday, then went on a dolphin and whale safari for the afternoon. It was quite funny because I met a girl who went to school in Upper Dean, not far from where I live back home. I started off sitting with her and her friends at the front of the catamaran, but we soon realised why the captain was laughing at us as we sprawled ourselves across the deck when the waves came over and attacked us! We got soaked! I thought it was brilliant fun, but the others gave up so I thought I'd head to the back of the boat too. It was really rough and windy

Dinner at the beach so lots of people were suffering from sea sickness, luckily I was fine, but three and a half hours into the trip we still hadn't seen anything so we anchored at a little island to recover. The crew were feeling guilty so offered us free tea, coffee, hot chocolate and biscuits which was nice. One other girls and myself went swimming which was really nice but embarrassing with a boat full of people watching! On the way back in we eventually saw some dolphins which was great, and the sea calmed a lot.
I spent yesterday afternoon at the beach, having spent the morning at the pet shop with the girls. It was nice and hot with a gentle breeze, so I was content! I've been doing lots of babysitting which is good because it's a way of re-paying the Barkers for allowing me to stay with them and making my time here so fun! I think a fairly busy weekend is planned, so I'll look forward to writing about it next week.
Thank you all for your messages, it's nice to hear from you and I'm glad that at least some of you are enjoying my blog!
