I'm getting a slating for being a 'pomme' out here at the moment - I wish our cricketers would improve pretty rapidly! They're playing a one day international at Eden Park tomorrow, which hopefully I'll go to but the weather forecast isn't great and the friends that I'd go with would have to get off work. I forget that not everyone's on a long holiday like me!
I went to Auckland museum last Thursday which was actually fairly fun! Of course with the girls being there we didn't venture out of the childrens' area, so I didn't learn much, but the girls enjoyed it. I'll have to take myself back for the educational part at some point I guess. The girls' nanny, Tracey, has an eight week old golden retriever puppy named Molly who we visited that afternoon. She was very adorable but Alex was terrified of her - I think the issue was that Alex's leg was just the right size for Molly's mouth, oh dear! Sixteen month old Lucy, on the other hand, had no fear what-so-ever and enjoyed throwing herself at poor old Molly. Floppy, the rabbit, had a lucky escape!
Friday was very hot so
Alex and her ring
Alex loves bopping around in her ring! we headed to Western Springs park for a picnic. The girls love parks, and this one was especially good with extra large slides. However, it was lacking in the gym equipment which we'd found in other parks. The idea is that the mums/nannys can sit on the gym equipment around the edge and workout while their child plays, I thought it was pretty hilarious but people were actually using it! We entertained ourselves in the garden for the afternoon, playing in the sandpit and having a good old game of hide and seek whilst Fiona entertained guests.
I had a pretty full-on weekend; I went out on Friday night to experience some of Aucklands' bars and clubs with people I'd met at the cricket. I got the train in for the first time and it was quite an experience. I was aiming for the 19:32, but when I arrived at just before half past I was informed that I'd just missed it. I was pretty annoyed as the next one wasn't for half an hour, but ten minutes later it turned up. It was two carriages, and instead of waiting until it was meant to leave, it creaked off
Kayaking
Nothing like kayaking with a hangover! straight away - the conductor said that was normal! It was the slowest train I've been on, and instead of having an electronic announcement system, the conductor just wandered round and informed us if we were stuck in a tunnel! I had a really good evening and many cocktails and shots later I managed to get myself into bed at about 5am (luckily Fiona and Adam are totally chilled, so that's not an issue!). I was then up and ready to go kayaking at 8am, not a bad effort! Kayaking was really fun, it was a bit cloudy and rained but the water was warm and we were in the estuary so it was calm. We hit Newmarket shops on Saturday afternoon and I invested in a cute little black dress thanks to Fionas' persuasion. I wore that to a house party that evening which was good fun. I didn't get to bed until around 3am, then was back at home for 9.30am to take the girls swimming! I recon it's fair to say tiredness kicked in majorly that afternoon, but I'd lasted pretty well! There was a bit of drama when Alex decided to 'clean' the bath with a
Alex gave up
Alex found it all a little tiring - it was hard to point out that though I could move her, I couldn't move the kayak without the paddle! whole bottle of shampoo - she was slipping around all over the place and it was very hard not to laugh as Fiona attempted to tell her off!
I spent Monday in recovery - I made my way to the beach and lazed about in the nice hot sunshine. The sea was warm and I had some chips to keep me going, so it was good! I did, however, manage to fall asleep for a good half hour so my back was a little sore afterwards, but not too bad! I even managed to get pooed on by a seagull which had me laughing out loud and people probably thinking I was really weird - oh well, isn't it good luck?!
Tuesday was a little rainy so we went to Kelly Tarltons which is an underwater world. It was pretty fun, got to have a close up look at stingrays and sharks and my personal favourites, the penguins. They even take you on a little ride through the penguin area, which was smelly but exciting stuff! Yesterday was nice and sunny so we went to the Parnell Rose Gardens. However, we spent more time chilling out on the
Resting
Just chilling out in the water! grass whilst the girls ran around then looking at the flowers! We headed to the beach in the afternoon, then went for a quick shop at a mall - all good fun!
I'm already threatening to just stay here instead of visiting other countries, but apparently that would be a mistake?!
Hope everyone's well, Hats xx
