Munter durchgeknetet konnte ich dann ... read more

Well......With the holiday season now behind us, we've really had a chance to settle into everyday life....especially now that Melissa is working! Yes, she got a job as a CSO with The National Bank of New Zealand, Auckland branch. Taking the train into downtown everyday and working on Queen street...which runs right through downtown....right in the heart of all the action and she is loving it! The banking here is a little "old school" compared to Canada, but she's adapting. She calls it "Retro Banking" of NZ. Dennis is also still loving his job and all the benefits that come with it. The people that he works with are great and he gets to drive all ove the latest and greatest cars that Nissan has to offer. It definetly is a different world than selling ... read more

And after 24 hours of traveling...I finally made it to Auckland- hooray!! Actually the 11 hour flight from LA to Fiji wasn't as bad as I expected...the benedryl pills helped a lot- thanks mom! I slept for about 6 1/2 hours! It was awesome...and thanks to some good advice from my baby I requested the emergency aisle seat so I had tons of leg room for both flights and could even put my legs up! I was super stoked...you can see the luxurous leg room from the pictures. It defiently started to hit me that I was leaving when I was dropped off at the airport by my parents and rich...and probably cried for a good 2 hours...but as the flight continued I started to get more excited about the experiences that lie ahead. I met ... read more

Hello and Happy New Year!!! First I have to apologise for the shocking lack of blogging, we have been so busy since we arrived here in New Zealand with xmas, new year and general Kiwi Experience bus shinanigans!!! We spent our first 3 days in Auckland where we wandered around feeling very jet lagged and completely shocked by how expensive (compares to SA) and bloody cold it was! By cold I don't mean Sheffield in December cold of course, but still pretty chilly after South America! We treated ourself at the Base hostel in Auckland and stayed in the Sanctuary level. No smelly boys, a free fluffly white towel (not so white now!), aveda hair products, hair driers and did I mention no smelly boys on the whole flor?! Oh and free champagne in the ... read more

Once we were all moved in to our flat, Christmas started happening very fast. There was lots to do and we were also busy setting up house. We had been finding it a little hard to get into the Christmas spirit that we are used to. We actually missed the cold and snow...and the feeling you get from being warm and cosy inside. As well as the lack of Christmas lights compared to what we have at home. Of course even the houses that have them, you don't see until after 9 PM when the sun sets because it is summer here. Also, spiced rum and egg nog (egg nog doesn't exist here, and try explaining it to someone that has never heard of it, exactly what it is really) Just little things like that. ... read more

Well....moving day finally came! Haha, not that we had much to move. We basically packed up our suitcases from Pauls and took them to our place. Well....it wasn't QUITE that bad, we had SOME furniture and dishes. But after that we headed out shopping. Turns out Christmas time is a great time to buy new houseware because almost every store had a 50% off sale. So we got some very nice stuff, and saved some money too. Our place is great. It is a flat that is partially attached to the landlords house...which is fine because it is attached to just PART of a wall of their garage. We have own parking in the driveway, own gate and yard! So we will beable to have sme nice BBQs now that is is summer here. There's nothing ... read more

We are settling into life in New Zealand quite comfortably, thanks in the most part, to Dennis' brother Paul and his girlfriend Sally. Having a place to stay and lots of resources have made getting "set-up" much easier. And it's always nice to have the feeling of family around. So, while we were staying with them, we spent some time getting acquainted to our new city. This was easy since Nissan let Dennis have his company car 2 weeks before he even started! We were quite happy driving around in a 2007 X-Trail! We also discovered "Movember" where all guys for the month of November grow out their facial hair however they want...and they do it to raise money for prostate cancer. Similar to shaving your head for cancer at home. So Dennis had a ... read more

Hi everybody, Sorry its been a while, bet you've all been waiting with baited breath for our next installment - not! Well, things in New Zealand have certainly been different to South America, what with it being part of the developing world and all that. No longer is there a need to carry a constant supply of toilet roll with you as remarkably you actually get it provided for you in bars, restaurants and public services out here...! But unfortunately the down part is that everything is much more expensive (cheapish compared to England). But having got used to the high life in SA, whilst spending practically nothing at all, we have found the money has been slipping through our fingers in this part of the world. But that might have something to do with the ... read more

After 35 hours of travelling (4 hours to Heathrow, 10.5hrs to L.A, 7hrs in LA (5hr delay), 13hrs to Auckland) we finally touched down safely in Auckland. We really needed to stretch our legs and we've never watched so many inflight movies. Two hours later, after another long wait, we swapped money for our campervan. At last we could finally get some decent sleep! We drove north for two hours and parked up in the middle of no where and kipped down for the night. Looking forward to starting our sight seeing tomorrow........ read more
