Day 4: Parekai Springs to Hanua, 120 or so km, more like 140 with all the wrong turns the Donkey took Today was a sad day for both Showponey and the Donkey. Showpony was once again poorly overnight and the two friends agreed that it was not a good idea for Showpony to carry on so the Donkey was suddenly by himself. He panicked as now he had to do all the thinking. Showpony had done most of it till then; he had covered all eventualities including potential calamities some of which had come true. And today was just the day the Donkey needed Showpony more than ever as he had to navigate through Auckland, the biggest city of New Zealand, and it is well known that navigation is not one of a donkey's strengths, in ... read more

Hey there guys! Sorry I've been so quiet of late - been really ill and still suffering the effects of flu bugs that I've no resilience to. Next BIG adventure will kick in 2 weeks today as I am going to South Island for 7 days to re-trace some of the stuff I so loved in 2011. But...I treated myself to a ticket to see the All Blacks face the Springboks at QBE Albany yesterday and OH MY GOSH was it a good choice! A brilliant night spent with Kiwis, Aussies and SA's culminating in a crushing defeat of the 'boks by the Blacks. Katie has now been kitted out with 1cm thick 'gym mats' in the rear which will provide the much needed flat sleeping surface to properly enjoy the wilds of South Island. Anyway...no ... read more

Ik ga ... read more

De ... read more

U.a. unseren heißgeliebten Curry-Reis.

NZ day 21 Port Waikato. Well what a lovely relaxing day it has been. No rush to get out of bed, get showered, have breakfast, do the dishes, pack up & hit the road before 10am. Nup, today we stayed in bed until about 8ish (well that is a sleep in for us), then we had brecky in our jamas.....I was going to have a jarmy day But Raymond thought we may scare the natives.......had bacon, eggs & tomato- yum! Then off to the showers, bit of housework & tried to find the park manager so that we could pay him. Talk about laid back...Colin is his name.....he wasn’t in the office so we rang the intercom- this connects to his phone. Well he had gone home to have the farm to have breakfast & if ... read more

NZ Day 20 Well today we made our way (via the scenic route) to Port Waikato....or Port Whakahoota, as Raymond calls it! We weren’t in any hurry to leave the Cosy Cottage International Holiday Park- cause they charged so much we thought we would get our moneys worth- if that is possible. It was one of the most expensive parks (in line with Queenstown) at over $40 for the night. You didn’t have to pay for showers (yep- still coming across that....the cheapest so far is 50 cents for 5 minutes...& not a minute longer either I’ll have you know! The dearest I think was $2 for 10 minutes). Anyway, they also charged for hairdryer usage (50 cents) & the washing machine was $3 & the dryer $4!!! Stuff me- & guess who had 2 loads ... read more

Exploring New Zealand, December 2010 Having recently returned to the States from working in China for a year, I knew I would have only a couple of months to get my system back into the Western Hemispere, before not only returning to the Eastern but also visiting a new one, the Southern. My family had long been planning an epic adventure for the holiday season: a trip to New Zealand, where we have friends and where Mom fell in love on her first visit with the unique biodiversity of this island nation. We left "sunny" Florida, which was actually turning quite cold, flying and transiting for 27 hours, and arrived at 7:30 in the morning on a Saturday in Auckland. Once through customs and "biosecurity" (intense, I might add), and reunited with ecstatic friends, we ... read more
Greetings!
