Hello,
i am getting a bit behind with the old blogs so going to skip the rest of Aus and try and fill you in at a later date, and go straight to New Zealand otherwise i will never wirte another one again!
I have just spent a brill week in Aukland staying with a couple of Irish guys who used to drink in the hotel every Saturday night who moved out here last year. Richard, Andrew and Laura live in a great house in Mount Eden Village not far from the City Centre - you can easily see why none of them want to move back to the lovely UK - they have a great life of beer and BBQ's and unfortunately a bit of work during the week, but they didnt seem to let that interfere.
I arrived on Wednesday evening and had a lovely BBQ, with homemade burgers, i was very impressed. The following day i spent chilling out in the house doing washing etc, a welcome break from dorm rooms and hostel laundries. That evening Richard and his girlfirend, Jade, took me out to Muriwai Beach to see the smelly Gannets and eat fish
and chips, while drinking wine out of plastic glasses - classy i know, at least it wasnt goon! The following day i spent the morning in town on a mission to buy a pair of jeans ( for some reason did not bring any with me!!! My only packing regret apart from not bringing a proper towel, had to buy one in Aus, another shower with that awful travel towel would have broken me!) Anyway, mission complete i met Richard and Jade for lunch at the Harbour and then Jade took me on a boat to Devenport for the Afternoon, we climbed Mount Victoria (I then realised how unfit i am - must go running!) where there were some lovely veiws of the city and its many volcanoes and then spent the rest of the afternoon in a sunny beer garden. That evening we went to a concert for the Pacifika festival ( a festival celebratiing polynesian culture) again with plastic glasses of wine, great fun! Iwoke up early the next day with a slightly hazy head, but no rest for the wicked, i was off to play crazy golf with Richards work day out. We had plans for the beach that afternoon, but exhaustion, not a hangover, took over and i had to go for a wee afternoon nap, in preperation for a big night out on the town. The weather has been great in Aukland so we had another BBQ that evening on the decking, could really get used to the life! That night it was one of their friends 30th birthdays so we headed to a bar in town. Auklanders tend to drink more at home than out and about so i think it was a big night out for everyone. Even more so because it was the Ireland V Scotland Six Nations game when we returned home, kick off 4am. I managed to stay awake for "Flower of Scotland" but was out for the count ten minutes after kick off.
The next day i felt remakably well considering the amount of gin and jack daniels i had put away the previous evening, so while Richard and Jade spent the day slightly worse for wares, Andrew and Laura took me to A rugby league game (Warriors Vs Stormers). I still struggle to understand normal rugby, so the league stuff really threw me. Not a problem however, as the highlight of the day was Fat Freddies Drop, a kiwi band who were on before the start of the game, they were awesome!
On Monday Richard, Laura and Andrew all had to go back to work, so i got a much needed day of rest, although i did venture up Mount Eden, not as impressive as it sounds as only took about 15 mins to climb, although quite steep and did again realise i am very unfit. That evening i had been invited round to The Coles house (friends of my dads from when he used to live in Samoa) for their Monday night family dinner. It was lovely to meet them and hear stories about my mums love of G&T's at four in the afternoon (I knew i got it form somewhere) and see pictures of my family before i came along.
The next day i said my goodbyes to Aukalnd, with promises of returning and hopped on a bus to New Plymouth, where i was greeted by a welcome commitee of my Aunt Mary, cousin Colin and his wife who i have not seen for many years, and their 4 gorgeous children who i have never met.
Anyway, i think thats enough for now, will try and be better at keeping up to date, lots of love xxx
