Saturday April 15th
Bula from Fiji
What a nite. Just after dinner last night Wes got really really sick, like sick as I’ve never seen him, and we’re in the middle of nowhere, having to catch planes etc. At about 10 pm it all started, not stopping until 4 am. He was throwing up every 10 minutes. By the end of it he was really dehydrated, and guess what we’ve got a plane to catch at 8 am. We all getup and get ready for the 7 am shuttle to the airport, but when we get down there guess what, it’s full…grrr… so we grab a cab, not knowing how Wes is gonna manage. The airport is 10 minutes away which is nice, and it’s not that busy. So we grab our tickets, everyone gets weighed (which I thought was kind of strange) and wait for the plane. 8 am departure time comes and goes and I’m thinking Fiji time as I’ve read about. Hmmm Jason goes up and asks them about the flight, and gets told don’t worry. Your plane is getting refueled and it’ll be ready shortly. Our plane? What’s up with that? 9 am comes and
Little Plane...Big Runway
Small plane on a international runway we get the call… follow the pilot out to the plane and we’ll be off. Eh? Not like home I say…lol so we follow this guy, go through security (really quick) and see the plane off in the distance. Turns out we really get our own plane! The pilot does the usual speech about seatbelts, life jackets, emergency exits (he said just leave the way you came in lol) and he also says we’ll be taking off shortly, and if you’re hot use the emergency information card to fan yourself... LOL it really was something to hear that. Anyhow, we’re in this little 8 seat plane with 1 pilot, and us. I’m thinking what if something happens to him, is jay gonna fly the plane? Lol. If there was ever a flying minivan this is it! Wes isn’t looking good at this point; we really gotta get this flight over, and get him some fluids ASAP. So we taxi out on this huge runway (this is an international airport) and off we go, engines a blazing away! We climb to 9500 feet and it’s nice and cool up here, the views are tremendous, we can see the coral reefs, lots
of small islands and atolls, we get some really nice pictures, and after 1 hr and 20 minutes we about to land. Pretty hard landing, as a button came off the instruments above and hit the pilot on the head. He apologizes for that, and we disembark, flying this way gives me the willies, but the speed of boarding and leaving is nice! Unfortunately our bags didn’t make it on this flight; they will come on the next one ah well. There is a really nice driver there to greet us, and he gives us a really quick tour of the area where we’re staying, and we get to the house. Quite the house. We’re on 3 acres of ocean front land. The house has 2 bedrooms, a kitchen, living room and a really big covered deck. Beautifully manicured lawns, with lots of flowers and palm trees all over! There is a really nice gazebo down the lawns overlooking the ocean. This place is really nice! We get Wes drinking again, as he’s not looking good. He’s gonna watch a DVD while Jason and I go out to do a bit of shopping. We visit 3 stores to get supplies
and are back. The rest of the day we spend unpacking and getting things arranged. We also meet with Maureen, who looks after the house. She offers to do our cooking, all our laundry. For dinner that night we went 2 houses over, to a place called coconut grove restaurant. It was Saturday night, and they had a buffet dinner that was really nice, Jason especially liked the banana bread, as he had a few slices. After we went back to the house and turned in for the night.
More tomorrow!
