This morning I got up at 7. Again the weather was scorching so I piled on the factor 25. We headed out on a jungle trek (well.. those who could be bothered) the first hour was just constant uphill and everyone was literally dripping with sweat as it was quite exposed with no shade. It had been raining constantly in Fiji for a week before I arrived so the whole path was very slippy and muddy with red clay but very unlike me I managed to stay on my feet for the whole time! After another couple of hours walking through the jungle we reached a river which was nice and cool although very brown and muddy - have absolutely ruined my trainers in the first few days!! After some well desterved lunch - I was ... read more

The second half of our week comprised mostly of diving. As it had been two months since our last dives we were keen to get back in the water. We went with a local company and soon realised Fiji has very relaxed laws. As we are open water divers, technically we are only allowed to go to a maximum depth of 18m. Our Fijian instructor however decided 29m seemed more suitable!! In diving terms this would be classed as a deep dive, oh well! We went to a site called Snap Crackle where we saw a cave, pretty cool especially as its the first we have seen. A huge lobster poked his head out and a very inquistive turtle came to within inches of Becs S. Although not particularly different from previous dives, the visibility was ... read more

Going to Fiji was a rather surreal experience as not only did it mean we had entered into our final two weeks of our world adventure but it also meant (hopefully) paradise. Our decision to base ourselves in one place for the entirity of our Fiji experience was not taken upon lightly, but with dwindling funds and the essence based on chilling, this seemed the most appropriate way. This choice could not have turned out more perfect, our base on the Coral Coast, on the main Island Viti Levu, was beautifully located on the beachfront with a palmtree back-drop. Although the hostel was a good 2 hour drive from Nadi (pronounced Nandi) airport the time flew by as we soaked up the sights of our new surroundings. Fiji has quite and Asian feel with a back ... read more

Nothing much to report today, got packed up, checked out and headed to the airport, turned out we had a 4 hour delay which is not good with a bit of a hangover so we hijacked 4 chairs each and went to sleep! We did get a free lunch though which was good and met Gun and Leaf again! They are stalking us I think! ha ha! So arrived in Auckland quite later than expected, found some accom and headed there in the shuttle bus - exciting times I know, I bet you guys can't wait to read the next line... yep, we went to bed! Night Night! xxx Sorry no photos today and my camera battery has just died so I can't even put any random ones on here! Sorry!... read more

Had a nice sleep without any damp bedding! hurray! Done the washing and had a nice lie in - luurvely! Decided to go into Nadi town today so we got sorted and jumped on the local bus! All the kids were staring at us as we're white which was funny! If you gave them a smile though they would give you a cheesy grin back! Well cute! Anyhow, Nadi town centre is erm, how would i decribe it! I am not sure, some bits are run down and some bits aren;t. We asked a man for directions on the bus and he was an off duty policeman - always handy! and showed us the way - good old Jo - He likes manchester United! He watched them win the other day as well apparently?! anyhow its ... read more

Our first stop today was the Ba district, where many of the Fijian Indians live. We stopped for a curry and then headed off to the mud pools in the Sabeto Valley. The mud pools were so nice, the perfect way to end the tour. We covered ourselves in mud and then took one last group photo (not that you can tell who anyone is!). We cleaned up in the hot pools then headed back to Nadi for some in-house entertainment at the Nadi Bay hostel. I've met lots of people on the tour who will be on Beachcomber Island with me for Xmas day. I'm looking forward to Xmas, Beachcomber is known as a party island so it should be a fun place to spend Xmas. The forecast is lots of rain, we've had storms ... read more

We visited another village today and had a Kava ceremony, then the girls weaved braclets while the boys finished the Kava! I can't say that I objected too much to this, Kava looks and tastes like dirty water! The next activity was Bilibili rafting, we rafted down the river and then stopped to play volleyball in the mud on the bank with some local boys. The mud was disgusting, it smelled really bad! We all had a great time though and after the vollyball we all had a swim in the river to clean off. We rafted back to the bus and had a competition to see who could get there first, my team came second. We played some games at the hostel this evening: crab racing (my crab was the last to leave the circle), ... read more

Today, we completed a three hour trek, in Matakibau. Luckily it wasn't raining, I don't know how we would have done it if it was. The trek was very hilly and for part of the way we had to walk through a river, lots of areas were really slippy and we were all very dirty when we finished. It was really good fun and at the end the view of the river was amazing. When we got to the end we went tubing down the rapids, I was facing backwards and smashed into a rock when we entered the rapids and got then got stuck! After I'd been rescued, we went swimming by the waterfalls and jumped off a diving board into the river. After the swimming, we got into a longboat that took us down ... read more

I arrived in Fiji yesterday and it was pouring it down with rain. I started on the Feejee Experience bus today from Nadi to the Coral Coast. We've had a few showers today but the weather has been mostly good. First stop was the Nadi markets where we bought pineapple on sticks and then we had some time to look around the town. The next stop was at Natadola beach where we had a BBQ and chilled out on the beach, until it started to rain. Some local children were at the beach selling shell jewellery and giving horse rides. We played football with some local boys and then got back on the bus and went to a village called Malo-Malo where our guide, Cam, took us into an ex chief's house and talked to us ... read more

Just to give you an update. After a delay of six hours at Sydney airport we arrived in Fiji at 3.00am. When we awoke at our resort later that morning we realised we had landed in paradise. Fiji is just so beautiful and the weather perfect if you like it hot , we think it must be around 100oF today. We are staying in a super resort called the Hideaway on the Coral Coast and the whole set up is first class, it is quiet here at the moment so we have a big choice of sunbeds and it all feels rather exclusive. We are sleeping in a Bure - "a Fijian house" a high ceilinged dwelling meant to keep you cool in summer and warm in winter. We have been lazing by the pool mostly ... read more
