Parasailing Over Fiji Waters
Myself parasailing over Fiji waters near Beachcomber's resort. I arrived at the Fiji Bay Resort in the evening and ended up just having a late dinner and then off to bed. Having only three days here, my initial plan was to just stay at this backpackers resort for the entire time. However, after talking to some backpackers in my dorm, I found out that Beachcomber Island is only a 30 minute boat ride away and is much more fun than the mainland. So early the next morning I climbed aboard the Beachcomber tour boat and headed off to their island.
Beachcomber Island Resort is a blast, its small, but full of everything you could want to do. Great snorkeling, diving, parasailing, seadooing, tubing and banana-boating, along with nice sandy beaches and warm seas. I spent two days here, just relaxed the first day, spent the night at the bar, and then took on a few events my second day. Rode the bouncing banana boat, drove a seadoo over the ocean which is way better than on a lake, and hit to the skies strapped into a parasail.
My flight out to Sydney was scheduled for 11am Saturday, of course the residents of Fiji don't seem to own
Welcome to Beachcomber Island Resort
One of the hundred islands of Fiji, this one dedicated to the party resort, Beachcomber's. watches or know how to tell time as everyone you ask simply responds, "It's Fiji Time"; this of course means my flight was not to leave until almost noon. I boarded the flight like any of the other 23 flights I have in the last 2 years and took my seat. It was the largest passenger plane in use, a Boeing 747 which is a double decker full of 400+ passengers. Off we went, taking off was smooth until about 10 minutes into flight when a small tremble was felt throughout the plane. A few seconds later a fireball shot out of engine number 4 and the plane started to shake, then a stream of fire shot out of engine number 4 and you could feel the plane slowing down. Engine number 4 was then cut off and engine number 3's speed was increased to pick up the lack of power. A few moments later the captain announced that we would be returning to Fiji as engine number 4 was no longer working.
News Coverage Back on the ground the airline (Air Pacific & Quantas) set everyone up at resorts around Fiji with all meals paid which wasn't so bad
Beachcomber's Beach
A beach shot at Beachcomber Island Resort, with Treasure Island Resort in the background. at all, much better than going home and sitting in my cold apartment watching TV. I was to stay here until late Sunday when my new flight was booked for 9pm. My next flight was much better this time, I arrived in Sydney at 11pm after a short 4 hour flight and took at taxi home. Hit the bed around 2:30am and awoke at 6am for my first day back to work.
This closes my round-the-world trip until next time. I'm happy to be back in Sydney, time to start paying off this 3 month adventure and take it easy for a bit.
