Improved entry. Here goes: The first awareness we had of being in the beginnings of the outback was the heat (naturally). It is difficult to explain how much it affects your mind, your comfort and energy levels. We first noticed this when we'd driven up to Port Augusta after leaving Adelaide. We planned to stop off at the huge jetty in Port Pirie (you'll see in the pictures) to meet some dolp... Read Full Entry

Thom was sure he could see a wicked van paint job on this motor.

We got there at Sunset - took a bunch of pictures and then kipped over in the campsite to get more photo's for the sunrise.

We were very rudely informed by the caretaker of the site (let's call him the toilet cleaner man) that if we didn't fill out a form and put our 3 dollar contribution into the designated box in the next 5 minutes he'd come and wake us up in the middle of the night on his way back from Alice for payment. Needless to say I went to town on his silly little form..... Penelope & Silvio gave him his payment in 10 & 5 cent pieces.

Taken in Avon Downs on the NT/QLD border. Just as Thom was taking this photo a rather rude gay couple came over to befriend Thom and ignore me completely! I was very offended and Thom was terrified by their "sock in a cup" handshakes!

Best night for stars we had in the desert (but surprisingly not as good as The Great Ocean Road). We spent many an evening lying on the roof of the van - far away from creepy crawlies and covered in layers of deet spray.

Even though they are sometimes 10 wagons long they ALWAYS pull back in just after they've over-taken, which means you have to break rapidly. They rule the roads out there so you've just gotta deal with it - and it's an event in an eerily quiet day.

Thom's photographic fascinations migrated from man-made forests to these windmills whilst we were in the outback. Some serious editing discussions have just taken place prior to us posting this blog.

This fly hitched a lift from us for about 3 days. We don't know if it was alive the whole time then flew away/if it was eaten in the middle of the night by another creature/grilled on impact.

This is the bar in the Croc Dundee film (in McKinley), we parked up round the back of here for a night and shared the spot with a mad horse (which Thom tried to be nice to...bad idea!) and a few shady truckers.
