Yesterday marks three weeks until I head home! CRAZY!!!
These past few weeks have been pretty low key. My host mom went to London for a conference last week so I was full time mom. In those 5 days she was gone I managed to fully potty train her daughter and teach her at least 10 words. Little Beast is now out of nappies unless she's sleeping. And of course she holds in her poops until then. She will not poop in the darn toilet!!!!
While the mom was out of town, I let the girls sleep in their parents bed. This is totally something my family always did (and still does). And I forgot that it never really works out the way you want it too.
Who gets the middle spot? Who gets the good pillow? Covers off or on? What lights do we keep on? Three hours of tickle fights later.....the beasts were asleep at 10pm. Classic.
However, it's super sad to see these kids growing up and their parents missing out on huge steps in their life! While the beasts and I were laying in their parents bed together having a slumber party they
jokingly called me mom(maybe in 10 years) and kissed me goodnight.
Thanksgiving was a success!!!! I was unsure if I was actually going to follow through and make a Thanksgiving meal but I had too. I tried to get Big beast and Little beast excited but they didn't understand. I cooked all day and when I picked Big Beast up from school she goes "so when does all the fun stuff happen?".... I explained that the fun part is eating all the food and she wasn't amused.
I made my moms corn souffle, cranberry and apple stuffing, gravy, and a turkey. (May have cheated with a precooked turkey :/) Jordan joined my host family and I for the holiday and lets just say what's Thanksgiving without a few bottles of wine?! Jordan sliced the turkey because apparently he used to be a butcher... ya learn something new everyday huh?
When I told Big Beast that Jordan was coming over for dinner she immediately ran upstairs jumped in the shower and put on her nicest dress! She still believes in cooties though so she wouldn't go near. Little beast loves Jordan, though (they really just gang up on
me).
I'm very thankful that I had a family away from my family to spend the holiday with.
Last week we also had an early christmas dinner with Jordan's dad and his girlfriend. It was such a good night! They live about 30 minutes from Newcastle and have a large amount of yard. They grow everything you could ever imagine! Also, they are both chefs so the meal was SO good.
I'm sure I've mentioned our neighbors before in this blog. Well, they are Big Beasts best friends and they play together every single day. They are moving this weekend and Big Beast is not going to know what to do with herself.
I remember hearing from Ali that she hated when her friends would come over because all they wanted to do was hangout with Gabby or I. It's pretty much the same thing with little beast. Our neighbors come over and they always want to play with Little Beast or have her around. I'm teaching Little Beast my ways on how to be the annoying little sister. Big Beast will have her friends over and Little Beast and I always put scary
masks on and scare them or we just continuously knocking on their door. Good Times.
Little beast got an operation on her thumb this week. She had a trigger thumb so they had to release the tendon. She has the cutest little cast on. This means no swimming/beach and/or anything that will get the cast dirty/wet for two weeks. And it's supposed to be soooo hot!
Side note: everybody has electric kettles here to boil their water. They thought it was the strangest thing that I said we would just pop our water in the microwave if we need hot water quick. They were appalled.
Another side note: My host dad said the trick in all his spaghetti is Vegemite...... I've been eating it twice a week every week and I never knew that. Dad- you should try that one.
I'm SO thankful for all of you!
Love everyone so much!!
